how to avoid mirror glitches!
Account deleted

With Ms/Mr VP coming up, I've unfortunately seen a tons of entries with mirror glitches. I'd hate for anybody to miss out on anything because they were unable to submit an entry, so I figured I'd make a quick guide on how to avoid mirror glitches!

What is a mirror glitch?

Due to how the wardrobes are programmed, the panel with your avatar in it is coded to show what your avatar is currently wearing, no matter who you are- Basically, it's the digital equivalent of a mirror. If you right click + copy that panel, it'll copy that 'mirror' instead of the avatar there, so whoever sees it will see their avatar, not that outfit.

For example, the first 'outfit' is a mirror glitch, and the second is a properly copy/pasted outfit:

Method 1: Saving and copying from the main page

The first, and most common, way of saving an avatar is to save your look, and then copy/paste it from the home page.

First, save your avatar the way you normally would, and then go to the front page. Scroll down a little bit if needed, and you should see your avatar there. Right click and select 'copy image' from there, and then paste it in the text box- Tada!

This is the most popular, seeing as it gives a more accurate depiction of what your avatar looks like (no extra background like in the next method). However, this also means that your avatar runs the risk of 'vanishing' after regular server cleanouts, resulting in a white box.

Method 2: Screenshotting

A lot of people are worried about the VP server deleting the cached image of their entry, so instead they screenshot their look from the wardrobe. By doing that, they don't have to save the look and overwrite their current look, but it also results in the blue background being in the shot as well.

First, pull up your wardrobe. Windows users can use the 'Snipping Tool' software to select their avatar, while Apple users will have to use Command + Shift + 4. When you have the cropped image saved to your desktop, you can upload it to an image hosting site like imgur, and then copy/paste the image from there! Do not copy/paste the image from your desktop, as it will not work. You must copy/paste from the image hosting site itself.

Note: One of the team members has asked that you do NOT enter competitions with screenshots, as it makes it difficult for layouters. Please respect their wishes.

Method 3: Saving from 'Saved Outfit' tab

Until Kaj/Kim updates the 'saved outfit' section to host more than one outfit, I wouldn't use this method if you actually use it for saving outfits that you like. If it's just occupying space otherwise, however, this method can be incredibly helpful for saving a backgroundless image of your avatar without overwriting your current outfit!

First, get the outfit that you want to submit on, and click 'Save Favorite' (NOT 'Save', this will overwrite your current look!) . After you have done so, hover (NOT click!) over the 'Load Favorite' tab, and it will pull up a tiny preview image of your avatar. Right click on that tiny preview image, and then paste it where you want to submit it. Tada!

After doing this, refresh the page WITHOUT saving your outfit, and your original outfit will be right where you left it.

Method 4: Saving Image to Desktop

Probably the easiest method and one I'm shocked I didn't even think of doing is to just save the image to your desktop, and then upload the saved image to an image hosting site! Then, copy/paste it from the image hosting site, and then copy/paste the image to your post from there.

Thanks to Heathens for this method!

I have a question about something you didn't cover here!

Feel free to ask! I want this to be as helpful as possible to both new and old users.

Btw, Maybe not that relevant, but please do not join competitions on vp with screenshots =/
