This year we have been working on building an mobile app for Virtual Popstar.
Since there are 2 popular platforms, android and iPhone you effectively need to
build 2 separate APP’s. With a price tag of about 75.000 euro(85.000usd) each,
this was something that I did not have the money for. So I had to choose,
build an Iphone or android app. There was also a third option. Build it on a cross
compatible platform so we can build one APP and then split it to android and
iPhone only we did not know if such a large website/app will still work good.
Unfortunately this turned out to be a failure.
The APP was way to slow and very buggy on across the systems during creation.
Due to this a few moths ago I decided not to continue an app what already is having
problems. I did not tell you since I first wanted to find a solution and figure out what to do.
We need to start all over again with the app and do it the hard and expensive way
by building two separate apps build in their own Android and iPhone
programming language. It was a waste of money but those things happen.
Just like the first time I hired somebody to build Virtual Popstar back in 2011 and it failed.
Back then it did not bring me down either and I found another company that
build Virtual Popstar for me (the version you are all playing today).
Since I did not have the money it to do it the right way since all my money and the
credit sale revenues are already invested within the web version of VP and the failed app.
I went out on a search to find an investor, someone who understands the future
potential of a good dress up community game/app and I have found one willing to invest
the biggest part of the money we need to build and promote the app and the rest will
come from credit sales. I also found a new company to build the APP that has way
more experienced with such large projects and they will start soon on the build of the new app.
We plan to launch the APP summer holiday of 2018, I know this is a year later than
planned but this is also new territory for me and I underestimated the app project.
But we will be back on track soon. When the app launches we will combine it with
some big international online advertising campaign. And for the Dutch and German
VP we will do some advertising on television. Also by the end of 2018 we will start
exploring what new languages we will launch in 2019.
I know we have not had many updates lately and we won’t have big updates
in the upcoming months on the web version of VP but I will update you on
the app development more often.
I can assure you the future of VP looks bright. We already have many great
ideas lined up for future versions of the app, and it is going to be amazing.
We all will benefit from the huge influx of new users and collectors since
they will want to buy a lot of limited edition sets (like the credit and Diamond member sets)
that you are have been accumulating and the wardrobe of each and one of us will
increase in value fast when VP will go mainstream.
Great things will come for VP community the coming years.
Thank you for all your support. We couldn’t never have come
this far without your help.
