This was his home. This was were he truly belonged... or so he thought, about 10 years ago. He never thought he would return again but... here he was. Sitting on a bench at the schoolground like he once always did. The bench were wet after the rain a few nights ago but he sat on a piece of paper he brought from the coffe shop a few blocks away. The small town where everyone knew each other and where the smalest gossip made the papers frontpage: like the old pastors dog died or someone really liked the food they served at The Grill. It was all the same and it even looked the same. He just looked at the frontpage and sighed. Humans were so naive. Thinking that the biggest problem was that they didn't pass a test in school.
Caden looked up att the sky that was transforming into beautiful light colors. He had thought that someone would take responsibility to upgrade this society but one of the streetlights still didn't have a working lamp. It was still a bit dark at 07:00 am, but it wasn't suprising when they just left the season of summer. Caden couldn't believe this world was something he once had lived in. A world he had shared as naive as the other humans. It felt like another dimension now... after what he had been through. Did he miss this? Sitting on the pappers at a bench near the school? The normal human life, the unsupernatural world? He didn't know. He didn't even know if he remembered everything correct. It felt so blurry. When Caden got asked to go back to his hometown he did hesitate. He knew that many wouldn't recognize him, only when they heared his name.
He looked down at his hands. Why did he accept this mission? It was laughable. It was ironic. He didn't have anything here... not anymore. Not after he left and didn't say a word to anyone. He didn't regret it. He would do it all over again if he had to. He was born into this duty he had. His parents was it before him. It was in his blood. He lifted his hand and burshed his blond hair with his fingers. It was cold, just sitting there in jeans and a t-shirt. He should had taken his jacket but he didn't want to go back to the apartment his parents rented for him. If he walked back he wouldn't find the courage to go back and start training instead. It was an hour before school even started. He closed his eyes and focused on his old memories. Yes, he knew why he had hesitated to this mission. The reason was easy, really. She would still be here and he left her with nothing.
He wondered if she would blame him after all these years. Would she scream at him and call him stupid thing? Would she be able to forgive him? He didn't know if he even wanted her to forgive him. He was not worthy of it. He had let her down. Caden took a deep breath. He deserved to feel the cold wind against his skinn. He deserved to sit there and do nothing, like he did nothing to say his own will all those years ago. He wanted to say goodbye but... this was still for the best. There were a possibility that he wouldn't pass The Exam and that he instead would have died. Caden had made it possible to be able to come back... but he knew... he wasn't here to met her. He was here to complete the mission he had been given. What he had trained for, each and every day, for the past 10 years.
