Kenna stopped the car and turned off the engine.
"Look at it. It's already crumbling apart, I reckon it has hours to live", She said. Zombie's dried out in this weather, it was way to hot and dry for them to live, let alone walk around and do things. It's not like she felt bad for the zombie, it wasn't a creature that felt pain. It only knew one thing, and that was hunger. And now it seemed the zombie was beginning to notice them.
"I call dibs on killing it.", She said, having never actually killed a zombie before. It was unnecessary to harm it, though. It would probably just fall apart on its own, but her curiousness got the best of her. She wanted to know what it was like killing a zombie.
_

Brad narrowed his eyes.
"You haven't been outside, have you? Well, can't say I'm surprised that the system is failing but they could at least have told you, I mean, really?", He shook is head.
"Long story short, some virus broke loose. Everyone's turned into nut-jobs and I'd advice you to just stay hidden until the storm blows over", He said. He couldn't quite tell her age, she was tiny but something about her facial features made him think she was perhaps a bit older than 15. It was sad, no parents to pick her up or even bother telling her what was going on. All alone, which reminded him of himself as a young teen in the middle of nowhere. Except she was all alone during an apocalypse.

Nix watched it flail about, he couldn't process that it was once a human. He was about to suggest just waiting it out to see it slowly decay, but Kenna was already calling dibs on putting it out of its misery. "Have fun," he told her, blankly. More time to sit here and relax, he thought. Nix leaned his seat back just a few inches and folded his arms behind his head. "Take your time, I'm kind of in the mood for a nap," he yawned. His eyes staying put on the creature. He assumed she wouldn't considering it already looked like it'd turn to dust if a strong wind blew, but a man could always hope.

_

Arabella took a moment to process what he said, blinking. She finally snorted, slapping her thigh. "Oh, that's a good one! Sounds like a comic I read," she said more to herself than him. "But, no, seriously, where's a nurse? You can't be here without one." Her eyes then trailed to his pocket, where an object poked out. Not at all suspicious, she sarcastically thought. Raising a brow, she looked back at him. "What'chya got there?" Arabella felt a bit calmed down, not much, but his joke eased her a bit.

Kenna decided to not waste arrows on a practically dead zombie. She stepped out of the car with one of her knives in her hand, looking at the zombie as it crawled towards her, probably mustering up all the energy it had just to come near her. When it was a few feet away from her, she took her aim, lunging at it quickly and pressing the knife onto it's chest, causing it to fall down in a pile of rotten flesh. It smelled terrible, as she leaned over it and took the knife out of its body and stabbing it again in the chest, and then the head. The bones and flesh had decayed, it didn't look like a human at all, except for those goddamn eyes. One of them, at least. The other was gone.
She stood up straight and looked at it, studying every feature of the thing before ending its misery with a quick step on the neck. The head nearly instantly separated from the rest of the body. Conclusion: zombies were without doubt easier to kill than humans. At least in this condition. She turned her head back to the car.
"Michaelson! Let's go!", she yelled and looked at the other car that was parked outside the hospital. Weird, she thought, hoping it was the car that had once belonged to the zombie and not some stupid person hiding out in the hospital.
_

Brad shrugged.
"Nothing special. I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to be here without a nurse, so I think I'll go. Sorry for disturbing you", He said and began walking the other way, praying the girl wouldn't follow. She was only a liability, and though there was no denying that Brad did feel sorry for her, he wasn't gonna save her. Survival of the fittest, right? And the fittest were not teenagers in psych wards, unfortunately for her.

Nix watched as she dove towards it, taking it out in a matter of a minute. She's good, he thought. Though, it wasn't surprising considering how long they'd been trained for this exact moment, her longer than himself. It landed with a dull thud, its head lolling to the side, the only distinction that it was once a human was one lone eyeball staring at nothing. Letting out a sigh, Nix uncrossed his arms and stretched them forward, popping his elbows and fingers, before slowly opening up the door and climbing out. "Nix," he said, again. "I prefer Nix."
A memory floated in, him on a green bicycle, the neighborhood kids calling his last name behind him in attempt to slow him down so they could catch up. No one had went by their first names, only their last. "Let's hope there's none of these guys in there," he commented, nodding his head towards the hospital as he stepped over the zombie.

_

The man turned around and started towards the opposite end of the hallway. Arabella stood there, rolling over what he had told her about what was going on. It didn't seem true, but could it explain why she hadn't seen anyone? Nah, he's just making it up to spook me, she thought. Or maybe he's not, that thing outside is going to get you. There it was again, that voice that made her feel nauseous. Biting her lip, Arabella looked around the hall from where she stood. Empty. Her breath hitched and she could feel her chest start to squeeze again. "Hey, wait up!" Jogging after him, she caught up and fell into step with him. "If what you're saying is true," she forced out, "mind if I tag along?"

Kenna ran back to the car and got her crossbow before walking towards the hospital.
"Isn't Nix that thing the kids use when they get lice? It's a bad name. Michaelson isn't", She said and opened one of the doors. The hospital was pretty shabby, the outside had been too. It was as if everyone had just up and left the place, not even bothering closing any doors or even turning of the TV in the waiting room. She looked at the TV for a second, it was playing the news. Showing pictures of lost people, hurt people, destroyed cities... Kenna had known that this day would come almost since she was born, but knowing didn't make her feel safe. Knowing made her feel kind of guilty for not trying to save more people. But the leaders didn't allow it, the zombie's were there for a reason, and the only ones that were gonna survive it was them. But who can choose who gets to live, and who gets to die? What had made her one of the lucky ones? She didn't like questioning the leaders' logic, so she tended not to. But at times like these, what else could you do?
"Luckily this isn't a big hospital. We might find what we need within an hour", She said and tried to find some sort of map on the walls. She found a board with all the different wards written onto it.
"I think the psychiatric ward is our best bet," She said after examining the list for a while.
_

Brad swore quietly when he noticed the girl was running behind him. He covered his face with his hands and tried to come up with something to say that wasn't 'no, I don't want responsibility of another person and certainly not someone who comes from a psychiatric ward', but failed. He opened his mouth only to close it again. He could hear voices, by the entrance. Zombie's didn't talk, or did they? No, they didn't. It was other humans. And it they were in a hospital, it was certainly because they wanted drugs. Drugs that he had in his bag. And pockets. He caught a glimpse of them by the reflection of a window a few feet away, but pretty much the only thing he noted was the.. crossbow? No, it couldn't be. He gulped.
"Shit. Someone's here.", He said quietly and took a step back, trying to figure out if there were any back entrances nearby. "If you get me out of there without whoever those guys are noticing", he nodded towards the direction in which he had heard the voices "I'll give you a ride to your parents or something. Sound good?", He said.

Readjusting the holders on his back, Nix shrugged. "It's my name," he told her, "I'd like to be called by it." The hospital was quiet. Beams of sunlight shone through the big glass windows, the dust particles floating around more noticeable in the light. The tv was the only thing to break the still noise, besides themselves now, showing the disaster of the world. He clicked his tongue. His mothers ramblings about such a day from way back when playing like a broken record in his mind. "There's no department for just medications?" He questioned, not familiar with how the hospital worked. He wasn't ever allowed in one, much less near one, due to his mothers over-the-top fears. He studied the directory, following the arrows and mapping it out in his head for a good two minutes. "Let's get going then," he told her.

_

He was right, there were others here. Arabellas heart swelled up in excitement for a second before she realised they weren't here to help. Just a glimpse of a crossbow could tell her that. "I haven't heard a word from my mother since she had me taken here, and I haven't seen my father in years. I'm not even sure if he's still alive," she whispered in a speedy fashion to him. "I'm an adult, though, I don't need them." Her words were more for herself than anyone else, she was taken aback by her own words but stood her ground. Grabbing his sleeve, Arabella pulled him backwards and down another hallway, her feet silent on the linoleum. "If we can find a door that opens without a keycard, or even a keycard.." she trailed off, lost in thought. Where would a keycard be in an abandoned hospital, though?

Kenna simply nodded and was about to walk towards the ward before hearing something. It was faint, but certainly there. Maybe a bird outside? No, the sound came from inside.
"I think whoever left that car outside is still inside this hospital.", She said before continuing to walk. She wasn't too bothered with the fact that someone was still there, she doubted it was a threat and even if it was, they'd be able to kill it within seconds. Kenna had only visited a hospital once, and she remembered the distinctive smell of detergent, but this hospital smelled old and moldy. Maybe it was because of the fact that no one had cleaned it in days, but she doubted it. The hospital wasn't located in a rich neighborhood, with its patients being mainly in need of psychiatric care, from what she had been informed by the leaders. So, basically no government funding and probably shitloads of mold-problems.

Brad followed the girl.
"Find a door and leave the rest to me", He said. Opening locked doors and windows were one of his many specialities. It was one of the first thing he had been taught out on the streets, as well as how to hotwire a car and robbing a cash machine. But it was more of a party-trick, compared to the things he did to make real amounts of money.
"So you don't have anywhere to go?", He asked her, hoping she'd say she had some friend nearby that would welcome her with open arms. Cause if she didn't, he wasn't sure he'd have the heart to tell her he wasn't gonna help her. His living-situation wasn't ideal, but he liked it. Especially cause it granted him independence. No landlord, no annoying neighbors. Well, a few crack-heads but he enjoyed their company once in a while. They were good story-tellers when they weren't high out of their mind.

Nix raised a brow, mulling over what she said. A shuffling noise from around the corner caught his attention, and he reached down to his ankle holster, pulling the pistol out. Holding it, pointed down to the ground, with both hands, Nix slowly walked around the corner and peeked. No one there. He relaxed, the focused look on his face smoothing out back to the bored look on his face."Clear." It still surprised him how his instincts could kick in without him realising it, but he got over it quickly. "Let's get in and get out," he told her, a serious look back on his face. Nix didn't want to exert more energy then he had to and just wanted this to be over quickly.

Nodding her head, Arabella lead him down a few hallways. Her hand gripped his sleeve as she hurried along until they reached what she remembered to be one out of three doors that lead to outside. "Not really," she admitted, "I didn't leave the house, honestly, until I was forced here." Her face tinted red in embarrassment. What was she supposed to say? People scare her so she stays inside and ignores the outside world? "Try this one" she pointed at the door, "there's two more we'd have to get through, but if we can get through this one, then the others will be easy. This one requires a keycard, but only the staff here has those, and I haven't seen any one since yesterday." Saying that aloud made it even more real. Arabella shuddered.

Kenna looked at Nix and nodded.
"Don't make the gun too obvious, odds are that it's a lost soul wandering around, or a rat.", She said and kept on walking, only to feel the familiar smell of gun-powder in the air. She saw an opened door at the end of the hallway, and instinctively directed the crossbow towards the door, walking slowly towards it. If someone had taken the drugs, they were screwed. The other, bigger hospital was emptied with drugs, the news had reported. This was their only chance. When she finally reached the door, she was greeted by a mess. Someone had definitely been there, bottles of pills were lying everywhere. She bit her lip, trying not to throw a fit while looking for the proper drugs. She did manage to find some, but the most important ones where gone.
"We need to find whoever took those pills right now. They're probably still here, I mean, their car is", She said and stood up, stuffing the pills she did find in her pocket.
_

Brad looked at the door the girl had pointed at. Well, it would certainly be a challenge. The doors he usually opened weren't as secured as this one was, but he was in a hospital, so it came as no surprise. He tried opening it, but unlike the front door, this one was locked. Well, a paper-clip certainly wouldn't do the job. He wondered if the gun would. But then they would certainly garner the attention of whoever else had come to the hospital. But the car was only a few feet away, he cold easily make it if he ran fast enough. The real question was if she could. He took his gun out and aimed it at the lock.
"I'm gonna pull this trigger, and when that door flies open, you run after me. And if you trip and fall, I'm not picking you up. You're on your own then, okay?", He said. The rush of adrenaline that he was getting was exhilarating.

Nix scanned wildly over the mess, reading the labels from where he stood rapidly in hopes of recognizing any of it. Nothing. In a quicker manner than he'd had all day, he bent down and grabbed what was there in handfuls and tossed them in a nearby gym bag. The name of whatever facility these medications came from printed on the side of it. "Better than nothing," he mumbled before slinging it over his shoulder. "Let's go." Nix lead the way out the door, silently, and focused on nearby sounds. "Is there another room here they might've needed to go to?"

_

Arabella swallowed, feeling her heart pick up speed again. She couldn't risk being alone, again, if what he said happened outside is true. She gently slipped her fingers into his belt loop, so as not to chance getting left behind, and nodded. Her body began to shake, from adrenaline or her anxiety, she didn't know. It was upping her fleeing feeling, though, so either way it was a positive for her. "Okay, hurry before we're found," she struggled out. Her throat was so dry, she needed to get outside.

“I’m not sure—“ Kenna began before getting cut off by a loud bang. A gunshot, probably a few hallways from them. She swore and instantly started running towards the spot where she thought the gunshot had come from. There was no way in hell she was gonna let them escape with the drugs, she had never failed a mission and she didn’t plan to do it that day either. She reached the door that had been shot open. With her crossbow aimed, she fired at one of the runners.
_

Brad ran like he’d never ran before after firing the shot, and with his eyes fixated on the car, he failed to notice the woman who was aiming her crossbow at them. He didn’t notice that the arrow had actually penetrated his arm before ripping the car door open. He didn’t feel pain, probably because of the adrenaline. But he swore loudly, the sight was horrid. It had gone straight through, and he could feel the warm blood streaming down his arm.

Nix processed the sound of the gunshot faster than he realised. Gun in hand and gym bag on one shoulder, he ran behind Kenna. When he finally caught up to her, her arrow was already soaring in the air and straight into a guys arm. Nix raised his gun and fired a few shots. A few bullets in the back of the car, one straight through the back passenger side window, and one into the back of a girls leg. "Do you see it anywhere on them?" He yelled towards Kenna. He for sure didn't see any bags and couldn't imagine everything they needed on their person. That was until he saw the small girls bag as she dove into the car. "There!"

_

Arabella kept her grip on his belt loop until they were close enough to the car. Slipping her fingers out, she felt her flee instinct pulse through her as she bolted. The man was already at his car, but the sight of an arrow piercing his arm made her stomach turn. The nauseous feeling didn't last long, however, as she stumbled from the pain of something stinging her leg. No, not stinging, white hot burning. "Fuck!" Arabella forced herself not to look at what it was; constant movies taught her that. If you look, it may feel a lot worse. She scrambled back up and pushed herself towards his car. She swung the door open and dove in, ducking immediately. "Don't look at it! Just get in, he's got a gun!" Arabella could hardly breathe; she didn't know if it was her panicking or from exerting more energy than she ever has or what. She ignored it, though.

Kenna lowered her crossbow, and ran towards their car.
"They're not gonna make it very far, let's go!", She yelled. Both of the runners were injured, and it was only a matter of time before one of them passed out and the other conceded. It was like hunting animals, they didn't last very long when they were hurt. She hopped inside the car and turned the keys. There was no rush of adrenaline for Kenna. She had been through enough to make it so that she could only feel the adrenaline upon actually killing something. That was an alarming thought to her, having to kill to feel something significant. But in reality, it was weirdly perfect. She was a fighter - her main purpose was to protect her leaders by killing each and every enemy that stood in the way. And those two unfortunate people were in the way.
_

Brad turned the key and started driving like he'd never driven before. He still couldn't feel his left arm, and now, he could feel his sight blurring.
"Who the fuck uses a crossbow these days!", He cried out and continued driving like a maniac. If they didn't die because of their injuries, it would be because they hit something. But he didn't care, he just wanted to get away from those lunatics as quickly as possible.
"Did they get you?", He casted a quick glance at the girl and noticed the blood on her leg. "We're fucked.", He didn't know why he bothered at that point. They were only drugs, after all. Drugs that were worth at least a couple of thousand dollars, he then thought. And those bloody bastards shot him! No, they weren't getting the drugs, even if stopping them from that would be the last thing Brad ever did.

Nix followed after Kenna and jumped in the car. He let out a long, slightly shaky breath he didn't realise he was holding. His brow furrowed as he looked down at the gun in hand. He actually shot someone. A person. A not-dragging-themselves-on-the-ground-and-no-longer-human person. Nix only ever slice or hit somebody, but with blades and fists. Not bullets. Nix didn't like guns. He chewed the inside of his lip and put the safety on before slipping the pistol back into the ankle holster and relaxing in his seat. "Either one's going to die of blood loss," he mentioned towards the one she shot, "or the one is too tiny and won't make it very far. She was the one with the bag."

_

Arabella scrambled through her bag and looked through the clothes she had. A soft black t-shirt lay at the bottom, she ripped it out. "Give me your arm," she gently brought his arm to her. "Uhh," she bit her lip, "I'm not very good at this but from what I know, we need to apply pressure." As gently as possible, Arabella snapped two ends off the arrow, making it short enough to wrapped the t-shirt around it. She tied it tight before letting him have his arm back. Turning around to look out the back window, "I think they're following us," her mouth hung open a bit and she resembled a deer in headlights. "Why are they following us?" She whipped her head towards him, panicking.

Kenna nodded. She was trying to keep up with the other car but she wasn't an experienced driver. Surely, the guy she had shot with an arrow wasn't in a good enough condition to drive. The car skidded infront of her, causing Kenna to have but one choice, avoid it by stopping. She started driving soon after, but the other car had some advantage.
"They're gonna drive into a fucking wall, the car's gonna explode and the drugs will be gone...", She said, until she got a very, very stupid idea.
"Hey, take the wheel for a second!", She said and grabbed the gun out of her pocket and opened the window, trying to give Nix room to take over while she tried to get in good enough position to aim at the car. She took her aim and shot one time, two, three. After the fifth shot was fired, she could tell she had hit one of the tires.
_

Brad handed her his arm and tried to not cry like a little girl when she broke the arrow. It hurt like hell, and he was feeling lightheaded. But he kept on driving, as best as he could, doing whatever he could to keep a distance from the other car that was clearly chasing them.
"I don't know", He lied and kept on driving, but as he felt something hit the car from behind, he realized there was no point in lying anymore.
"I might have taken some drugs from the hospital. Drugs that I assume they wanted", He confessed and prayed to God the car wouldn't give up on him anytime soon.
