Aria blew out a sigh as she stepped out of her car, purse in hand as she walked towards the grocery store. Tonight was a bust. She’d got out work literally a hour ago, rushed to get ready to find that her friends were already pissed drunk. They were so drunk they couldn’t even answer their phones and tell her where they were. That meant she was dressed in a black sequin dress with black heels, curled hair that fell down her back and a face full of make-up but all she would be doing to bring in the bells was sitting on her couch with a bottle of wine. It certainly wasn’t the way she wanted to celebrate but she wouldn’t be going out along tonight. There were too many crazies. As she walked into the store, her heels clicked against the linoleum floor as she headed straight for the wine section. There was so much to pick from that she was standing debating for a while. There was nobody else in the aisle apart from herself and a guy. He looked to be the same age as her and it made her curious as to why an attractive guy like himself was stuck in grocery store at 11.15 on New Year’s Eve. But there was something else about him. He looked strangely familiar to her and she couldn’t place her finger on exactly where she had seen him before. But as she found herself peering at him, he turned to look at her and she quickly redirected her gaze back to the bottles of wine, pretending as if she had not been staring at him. ~ ~ ~ ~ Matthew was trying his hardest to study in his room but it was becoming extremely difficult with the shouting and screaming coming from the room beside him. It was his twin brother’s room and he had his girlfriend over. But as per usual they were arguing about something and he could hear her crying too. It was horrible which was why he got up out of his chair to head downstairs. He wanted to get a drink or something to take his mind off. In the fridge he found some energy juice and grabbed a can, along with an apple which he took a bite out of. Just as he was heading back up the stairs, Cassia left his brother’s room with tears streaming down her cheeks. Cassia, oh she was literally his dream girl and had been since the sixth grade. But he’d never found the courage to really speak to her and his brother got in before him. Once he had his grip on her he was pretty sure there would be no way he could get her away. As he got to the top of the stairs he watched her as she slid down the wall and was sobbing on the floor. He blinked, a little unsure on how to take the whole situation but he crouched in front of her, resting a hand on her knee, “Cass, it’s alright,” he said to her quietly, rubbing his thumb on her knee. “What was it about this time?” he asked. Just being able to touch her was making him a little giddy.

Cassia felt sick as she left the room. She had just found out that her boyfriend, or now ex boyfriend, had only been with her because of a bit with his friends. Whenever she was upset she just wanted comfort from someone, no matter who it was. She sighed as she looked at Matthew. Why couldn't it have been him that was her boyfriend? he was so sweet and kind and much better looking than her brother. ''I should go because if I see your brother I honestly think I'm going to punch him,'' she said as she wiped her eyes ''I'm sorry I look such a mess.'' she said as she tired to put her emotionless mask on. She didn't want to look like a stupid teenage girl in front of him.

Seb ran a hand through his hair as he looked at all the different wines that were on offer. He was picking up a bottle of wine to ring in the new year after a long day at work. He would just have a drink at home on his own as usual. Since he left his old life behind he just tired to stay away from people as much as he could. He noticed the wine he wanted and walked towards it, biting his lip as he realised it was right in front of a pretty girl. He went to reach for the wine just as the girl went for the same bottle. He chuckled ''Looks like we both have the same taste,'' he said as he looked down at her, biting his lip. He knew her. He just wasn't sure how.

But as she did so, the guy also reached for the same bottle and their fingers brushed against one another. She preferred that over white anyway. “Have a good night,” she said to him, giving him another strained smile before she turned and started walking down the aisle again to go pay for her alcohol and get out of there. ~ ~ ~ Matthew frowned when she spoke of what his brother had been. He knew that Kirk could be heartless but he hadn’t realised the extent he would go to. Arguments were quite common for them but then they would make up moments later and the noises coming from his room were those he tried his best to block out. But it was obvious that this time there would be no patching things up. He’d placed a bet on a girl, a girl he supposedly loved and had just dumped her moments ago. How he could be related to someone like that he didn’t know. But what he did know was that he couldn’t leave Cassia on the floor of his landing nor wa she allowing her to walk home alone in her state. Instead he rose to his feet and held his hand out to her, “At least let me drive you. I don’t want you walking home like this,” he said to her, the frown on his face softening a little as he looked down at her. Her make-up was smeared and her hair was wild. Her eyes were red and puffy and her skin all blotchy. Yet Matthew had never seen someone so incredibly beautiful in all his life. “Please, I want to make sure you get home alright,” he said to her, giving his fingers a little wiggle for her to grasp onto.

Cassia wiped her eyes, hiccupping a little as she tried to calm her breathing down. She looked up at Matthew and sighed softly, why couldn't kirk have been more like his brother? Matthew was always so kind to her. She bit her lip as she looked away from him, embarrassed at the fact that she probably looked like an ugly mess right now. She looked up when he held his hand out ''I..'' she was about to say no but then she felt like crying all over again and knew that it would probably be best to have someone take her home because she didn't live in the best area and she didn't feel comfortable walking there in this state. ''Ok,'' she said quietly as she took his hand and stood up ''My bags in there,'' she whispered as she looked at the door where Kirk was. Her lip trembled as she thought about Kirk. She felt so stupid, so so stupid and the more she thought about it the more she disliked herself. She had never really had a boyfriend before him and she was even reluctant to be with him. She went against her parents for him and everything and now she just looked like a complete and utter mug. She sighed ''Would you be able to bring it to school tomorrow please? I don't want to see him right now or even hear his voice. I just want to go home,'' she said as she started to walk down the stairs

Seb bit his lip as he looked at the pretty girl ''You know you are far too pretty to spending new years on your own. Do you fancy sharing the bottle?'' he asked ''I only live round the corner. Was just going to put the shitty countdown on the telly and drink,'' he suggested, giving her a genuine and friendly smile. He watched her a little more and then he realised who she was. She was his best friend. Well, ex best friend up until he had to leave her behind. He had never explained why he had to leave but he did that to protect her. He smiled, hoping she would say yes to his offer because he would love to spend time with her again. He missed her more than anything in the world.
