you recieved climate anxiety

I feel like everything I know about my life, about society is going to be uprooted. I just want to cry a bit. I already struggle in the current heatwave and I see my bunny having a hard time, and I can not draw the line to all else living and how they also are affected by extreme weather. How many are going to die, be in pain etc. because of it. There are wildfires in the arctic that's emitting as much GHG as Sweden annually.

& I can just be here and do small things for the environment. Watching all the greenwashing by "fast fashion" brands and makeup brands (carrying problematics like modern slavery, animal cruelty and several pollutants), food stores selling these "kinda green items" because they sell. People making hauls of crappy items that they just bought directly from china with no consideration and without taking any responsibility about what they're putting forth and teaching their viewers are okay and responsible behavior.  So much is just tossed and burned, or shipped to Asia so we can blame them for so much plastic pollution instead of our consumerism and removal from sustainable values! Brands barely recycle because it is more expensive than virgin materials. But if they donate some money to a recycling initiative they can have that cool logo so many of us think means "recyclable" on their products!

It's Earth Overshoot Day today. We just emptied our resources for this year if we used them responsibly. Which we don't so we'll continue to use because it's practical and it gives corporations that believe that the only true economical model is everlasting growth and money... on a planet with limited resources.

So I'm just sitting here with some climate anxiety and watching this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EFHZfISGp4

ps, I feel a bit better after having tossed this out. Sometimes I feel like I know too much momentarily knowing I also know so little. *saving my money for Bokashi to get some food waste-methane out of the landfill*

can i say something offensive like always
but why are people freaking out now? hasn't this been a thing for a long long time like i swear ive heard about climate change since 2009 but it's only last year and this year people actually suddenly seem to care

and suddenly "zero waste" is a hot thing which.... can be debated how genuine it actually is and how much of it is just painting up a picture, how many times have i actually used my metal straws? maybe 5 but appariently its a "must have"

i also feel like sometimes all the responsibility is put on us consumers when its about what you can afford and what you have access to and even then SURE you can buy this schampoo bar on etsy that says its handmade and vegan and zero waste but its going to get here on a plane

If you wanna do things for the environment..... vote!
Become a politician!
Get your friends and people together and demonstrate.

It's basically the only thing you can do.

But other than that, I'd say. Don't worry so much. We're all gonna die anyways and life is fleeting. The climate won't fuck humanity until your gone. (totally anyways) and yeah it's sad and horrible... but all you can do is the things you do.

It's kinda like life and your body itself.
All you can do is hope for the best and take care of the body as best as you can. But eventually you'll die anyways. So just do what makes you comfortable and happy and healthy for now.

I can give you a hint on what the biggest thing you need to fight for a better climate is: Capitalism.

It's not offensive at all. At least not for me.
I think people are more or less freaking out now because it is given more attention in the media. I think the newfound research and documentation of plastic pollution fx. really got people to see how humans are destroying environments. There is research from the year I was born 1997 that support climate change, yet politics got out early to lobby against it, to seed a doubt so people could look away for a long time. Probably a lot of other things as well, just my most imminent thought.

I personally believe that the root of zero waste is great, but what media is doing is making it another consumer trend. I use my straws all the time, haha! Always bring them with me with a reusable cup when I'm out and about. But that's just a small thing and often more related to the reduction of plastic pollution than GHG.

So true! And corporations benefit from having the responsibility put on the consumer that only can do a tiny bit.

i don't even care for other humans but i don't want the innocent animals to suffer and die just because our species has been asshats since day one

it's bullshit that the big corporations are the ones most responsible for this and they basically just want to destroy this planet for the money they get

True, but I'm worrying because they don't want to change as long as they can profit, and it - surprisingly - cost too much to make changes that may make a difference. And really all consumers can do is not buying their products. #votewithyourmoney

idk its just odd to me because i feel like there has always been a threat to the climate
but its definitely like... more non-plastic or recycled plastic or eco friendly stuff are being sold by regular companies but im more convinced thats only to make money so you see a lot of more stuff like that in the store etc

yea zero waste was originally for like companies ?? i think something like that. but the term zero waste is very very misleading and it just rubs me the wrong way people bragging about how little waste they have made on the internet or in media when its not the truth. just because you have no waste at home doesnt mean you aren't actively making waste.. even if you buy with your own jar in a bulk store how you think that stuff got here? and even if you say no to a reciept doesnt mean its not still printed
