My great aunt had breast cancer and passed away a couple of years ago. She was a big part of my childhood and it was a pretty big blow to find out she passed away. However, I dealt with it by confining with my cousins and remembering how lively she was during my childhood.

My grandfather recently passed away this year due to cancer (I believe it was lung cancer). It's been hard since he also was a big part of my childhood and I was so used to seeing him. He passed away as soon as we found out so it's still hard to think that he's not here anymore. However, even though its hard to keep remembering this fact, I take it one day at a time to mourn his passing and just remembering the times we shared.
I love the way you've coped/are coping with both situations. I know a lot of people might not be able to cope in a healthy manner.

I'm happy to share. Before I was born my dad had melanoma, or skin cancer. My mom says it was the hardest part of her life watching him go through chemotherapy and other experimental treatments. On the day they married my mom cried because she didn't know how much longer he had. They surgically removed the cancer. He has a big scar on his neck that blends into the wrinkles of his skin when he turns his head. Then once he was finally in remission, they were worried they wouldn't be able to have children for a few years they tried. Now my dad's been cancer free for thirty years and he sees the doctor every six months to check for weird marks on his skin. He says use sunscreen and always get the back of your neck.
This is definitely a great motivator for wearing sunscreen (which I'm bad at remembering to do). You're parents must be very strong people. I'm glad your dad is doing so well.

My grandmother has been very sick for the past few years and now it's comfirmed that it's cancer. It's in her stomach or something, I don't really know.. She doesn't want to talk about it with us, so we don't have to worry. But it breaks my heart when I see her in such pain.

My parents thinks that she isn't going to make it the year out and I can't deal with it. I don't want them to talk like that. Nobody close in my life has ever died, I don't know how I should deal with it. They say I have to prepare for it but how the fuck do you do that? What do they mean?

OK. This took a lot more strenght to write than I thought and now I need to stop before I start to cry.

No one in my family that I know of has suffered from cancer, so I guess we're pretty fortunate for that reason

im a high risk stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer survivor and my mom is a leukemia survivor
i was diagnosed when i was 4, and it was put into remission when i was about 6 years old, and my mom was diagnosed a year later. neuroblastoma is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer, but had a very low survival rate back when i was a kid. I was one of the first curable cases at the time for a high risk stage 4 patient, and the kids and i that i knew during treatment were kind of like the test rats for the future of neuroblastoma. the survivors and i are currently being watched now for the long terms effects, since we are the oldest survivors, which is very very humbling to be accounted for in medical history.
high risk survivors have a 40% survival rate even after remission, due to the risk of secondary cancer, which is how i lost most of my friends. i had a 20% chance of survival when my cancer was at it's peak, and i overcame that.

I had a tumor that started in my left adrenal gland, and it wrapped around my lungs, heart, ribs and other vital organs and by the time they found the cancer, it had metastasized through my entire body (which is stage 4, high risk)
ive told the story of my tumor and how it disappeared on my youtube channel before, so i'll link the video below.

and then shortly after, i almost lost my mom to her cancer, and when i was in 10th grade, she got a bone marrow transplant that saved her life and now we're both very healthy and happy

December of last year my aunt's boyfriend of 8 years passed away from liver cancer. It started out as cancer in one of his eyes which he had removed. He was like an Uncle to me.
This summer my grandmother passed away from breast cancer. It was very possible she could have made it but due to psychological problems she was unable to and ended up passing in the hospital.
She had it once before when I was very young and had a mastectomy.
To add to what I have said earlier, since I was just trying to give a quick enough summary. Breast cancer skips generations on my mom's side. So since my grandmother had it I risk having it.
The psychological issue was schizoaffective disorder (Basically schizophrenia and bipolar mashed into one) and she had delusions, she didn't believe the doctors, instead she believed they just wanted her money.

i've lost a couple members of my family to cancer, some of them i've never met because i was either not born yet/1 year old. it's mostly on my mothers side but one on my dads. i'd share stories but i really don't have enough information on what happened since my mom won't tell me

My grandma's mother died from it, never met her though, she passed when my grandmother was 10, and my uncle's brother had it, he passed away this year, but we don't know if it was the cancer, or all the other sicknesses he had. Also, our neighbour (and good friend of my family) passed away this year from cancer.

I hope they one day find a miracle cure for all types of cancer, it's such a horrible thing ):

My mom is in treatment for breast cancer, she's finally cancer free, but still need chemo to make sure it stays away. Her hair is falling off.
It's been a rough couple of months.
