Even better: make your own game. It's not as hard as it sounds but its time consuming but you can start with simple things like visual novels etc. I wish i could tell everyone to just go for it but I study animation & game development and unfortunately you're right, the market is heavily oversaturated and you might not be able to make it if thats the only thing you want to do. It's rarely the only job they do and they usually help with development and stuff especially if its indie because they don't have the money to spend on writers and its mostly the whole team building the idea together with one vision keeper who manages the idea. If you want a position, i would try my hands in an indie company (maybe try your skills in other areas as well like narrative design in environment art, 3D modeling etc) . Another issue in the game industry is that they don't offer a lot of these positions anymore and its something you might get to do after a while of working within a company and built a good portfolio or showed off your skills. This is not to tell you that you shouldn't try because you can only make it by trying but its unfortunately the reality and i'm currently in the middle of it

yes!!! i'm def gonna build up a portfolio & stuff if i'm serious abt it
thank u thank u for the advice its very much appreciated!!! im expecting it to take a lot of time/never work out so it can only turn out better than expected i think

i wouldn't mind having another job with it too! but yea it would for sure just be a hobby thing until my portfolio (and knowledge bc rn i have 0 lol) is impressive enough to do something with it
i was also thinking about trying out other areas of game development! but i'm not sure if it's something that i can do because i have dyscalculia so anything numbers/maths related is tough for me, so i'll just have to see if it's something i'd like or not :3
i also cant do math but not everything requires math i barely use it. I'm also not a programmer but its easy to find guides especially for things like visual novels. If anything its mostly logical thinking but this is a skill you learn with time and after you understand that everything has a pattern . I would say the hardest part is studying the programms and understanding how the pipeline works
