That house is really good for only being your second! You even managed to find the roof trim, so good job with that one, haha! 

One tip I could give you for improving your builds in the future is to not just make a huge box, but make the shape of the house more interesting. I really like the little tower you built on the left corner, that part is great! In general, real life houses can often just be plain boxes, but that doesn’t work as well in the sims. Try playing around with adding small boxes on the sides of the ‘main box’ :’)
Yes smaller shapes gives a better silhouette and makes the house look a lot more interesting!
Even with a lot of the plain box houses today there are things kind of standing out, details of different kinds etc

This, yes. And also in general making the house smaller that you'd think, helps both with making the exterior look nicer, and is easier to fill with furniture and end up with those those huge open spaces (unless that's what you're going for of course)
