It's very hard to stay in a relationship/friendship when you are the only one trying to keep it, or when you are ready for change but the other person isn't or doesn't want to. And it may feel weird or awkward but it will also be so freeing not having to feel pressured about acting a certain way only to please one person who couldn't give you half the energy you give.
