i thought this was such an interesting take and im very curious what u guys think
my bf disagrees bc the parents who teach their kids about santa claus know hes not real 
but i kind of feel like this can also be the case in big religions though mostly ppl do truly forever believe in those gods yes

my bf also made the tooth fairy argument yes! imo i think the tooth fairy / santa claus are prime examples of folkloric entities like baba yaga was. i think the rituals surrounding them and the belief that they know/see everything is very godlike 
i wonder how this was in ancient greece for example, i know religious practices could be way more day to day and casual, more folkloric
but do we then use that way of practicing religion as a metric or one of our current biggest religious movements

yes i think so!! but santa claus was made by coca cola right, he doesn't really have a saint hes based on i think but correct me if im wrong i did not grow up w santa hihi

i think if ur mindful and have no bad intentions a discussion about religion shouldn't make anyone nervous :3 accidentally upsetting someone can always happen but this provides us with an opportunity to learn and grow 
especially if its a special interest of yours!! sad to have to keep it all in when we can all in turn learn something from u as well : D 

wait i didn't know santa adopted pagan beliefs, i do know christianity embraced putting up a tree and decorating it which is inherently a pagan belief, but im not sure i know which pagan rituals santa took over!! do you have an example? i can also google ofc but its always more fun to me to hear it from ppl who are knowledgeable about the subject hehe
