I recall I was at a restaurant in Oxford on my 19th birthday (via high school) and someone celebrated their birthday and the HORROR when they sang. Thank god it wasn't for me 
We went to a restaurant on my aunt's birthday (in Singapore), and the staff "performed", dressed up as crabs (it was a seafood restaurant). The embarrassment, omg.
