well ft has it as well (writing about your interest to cause discussion, which is what ft is about), and while ft do fun things also it's mostly in terms of forum games !
bt is more to spread info about your interest rather than cause a discussion surrounding it

It's not FT's task to make official threads for everything (eurovision, olympics and whatever) 

Anyone can create a thread about it if they like. Personally I think it would be much better if someone who is genuinely interested in the topic creates it, rather than someone from FT who made it "because they had to"
