FT: Official Reading Thread 2021

So far this year I reread Caraval and Legendary by Stephanie Garber so i could finally read Finale but I got bored after the second book so I still haven't finished book 3 yet. After finding out that Shadow and Bone is coming to Netflix and realizing I own the trilogy for over a year already I binge-read it and I rly disliked the series. Fun fact: I only bought the Shadow and Bone trilogy because I wanted to read Six of Crows and heard that these books take place in the same universe and so I thought it would be good to read the trilogy first and honestly... big mistake on my part. Read Six of Crows afterwards and loved it. Probably the only book I really love to read this year. Currently I'm reading Finale, Vox and Crooked Kingdom

I was sooo disappointed with Shadow and Bone (((spoilers))) once I realised the darkling wasn't the love interest I was thoroughly disappointed because his character (and Nikolai) were the only redeeming characters and the sole reason I finished the books. Though hearing that SoC is better makes me want to actually read that duology after I put it off

Finally an official reading thread!
I am currently reading The Wicked King by Holly Black, and I LOVE it. Every since I read the first book of The Cruel Prince trilogy, I've been in love lol.
My last read was The Cruel Prince.
Hm, not really sure. I'm terrible at keeping up with new releases. They're are past releases though that I'm interested in reading such as House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas.
My favorite genre tends to be fantasy though I also enjoy romance and thriller/mystery.
My favorite authors are L.M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, Erin Hunter, and Holly Black (my newest fav).
My favorite book is between Pride and Prejudice, Dracula and The Cruel Prince.
The last book I bought was The Wicked King.
My favorite quote is from Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House, "Peace was like any high. It couldn't last. It was an illusion, something that could be interrupted in a moment and lost forever."

Yeah. I'm trash for book-move\series adaptions. Like they can suck but I will still enjoy them.

@Crawk Definitely understandable, and a great reason as to why audiobooks are so important! And remember - listening to audiobooks is still classified as reading, don't let anyone tell you it's not

@Horcrux I need to read Crescent City! I just painted the edges of my copy the other day so now it looks even more inviting !! And guuurl u've been shoppinG. I'm tempted.

@Angelica  Ouu it sounds like you've found some good genres! I'm not really familiar with either genre so I don't have any recommendations I've actually read in that alley. However, when it comes to romance I've heard quite a bit of good things about "The Hating Game" and "Red, White & Royal Blue," however these are both more on the side of Romantic Comedies / Romcoms. If you'd like to branch out, "The Bridge Kingdom" by Danielle L. Jensen is a fantasy romance which includes quite a lot of politics, and is set in an area heavily affected by the climate/weather present on and surrounding said area. Perhaps it'd be a nice combination for you! It's currently on sale on Amazon kindle for $2,99 if you're into e-books. Can be read on a phone/tablet through the kindle app!

Right! I love an enchantment of ravens too but the green in this one just makes it better
They are both stunning. I'm really drawn to the warm tones in EoR
It's a really hard pick tho

ah yes!! that's very true actually !! it's a good reminder tbH,, because i always feel like people are like not counting it as reading n therefor r looking down on it for listening 2 audio books instead of like reading it with my eyes nbhvg!

@xBillieEyelashx @Horcrux

Gosh I was really disappointed by Shadow & Bone too! I really loved the first book, and the second book was just painfully boring. I didn't connect with any of the characters except for Genya, and by the time I was about to start the third book I just gave up.

However, I'm super excited for the Netflix show. I think it's going to be a million times better than the books!

Also, unpopular opinion, I really don't care for the Darkling lmao. He's literally just a villain to me, I don't even think he has that sexy redeeming quality.

SAME. I don't care if they're bad, I'm just so happy they exist at all which makes me enjoy them. Looking at you Shadowhunters.

I really enjoyed The Cruel Prince! It was a nice and quick read for me. I started The Wicked King, but I'm a sucker for romance and Jude and Cardan's relationship is developing soo slowly so I put it aside to read something more romance-heavy, but I'll definitely come back to this series. I've heard so many good things about the last book! @SweetLapis

see there was one chapter (from the second book I think .. maybe.. honestly can't remember) where he showed up in her room that had be intrigued and then I was just out.

by the end all I cared about was if the cat made it out alive ffs
