Yeah some people really see it as a competition. What’s funny is that most of them don’t actually want to work with music in the future so I try not to care

Do yo play any instruments yourself?
Yes, I play the flute, though not very actively anymore.

If yes: What do you play & for how long have you played?
I play/played classical flute and piccolo! I started playing when I was 10 I believe, and then I joined my local marching band at 11. I played in the marching band for 5 years before I quit, and then I also quit my classical one to one lessons around the same time, after my teacher had offered me a spot on like a talent program. Joining the talent program would have meant that I would have multiple one to one lessons per week as well as of course having to practice more daily, which I was not ready to commit to because I was more dedicated to my dance training which took up most of my time... so then I just quit instead, and have regretted it ever since. I had more of a natural talent for playing than I've ever had for dancing, but well, here I am at 22 trying to pursue dance as a career.
So yeah, I don't play actively as of now, but I still pick my flute back up now and then, and I will probably start playing more actively again once I finish uni and move back to my home country, because I still love playing music.

Have you been classically trained or are you self-taught?
Classically trained, as wall as played in a marching band and done lots of summer courses, workshops etc.

Do you have a favorite instrument?
... the flute
I also love piano and wish I could play!

Is there a particular instrument you would want & don't have yet?
I wish I had my own piccolo flute, as I only borrowed those from my marching band, and since they're really expensive, I probably won't ever get one either, unfortunately.

Omgg.. making that choice must've been hard! & I'm sad to hear the regret
But aaa all that creative experience sounds so fun! With the marching band & dance training n everything ... Sounds like a ride for sure haha. & What a cool instrument to be able to play though! Flutes sound so nice!
.. But yeah oof the prices, I had a friend who bought her own flute of some sort..( Idk flutes lol) while in school & she always talked about the prices n my heart just sank each time I heard about it lmao.

The choice was obvious to me at the time, however it didn't take long until the regret started creeping in... everyone around me advised me to just say no to the talent program offer, but still do my one to one lessons once a week, which i should have listened to. But no, I had to do all or nothing.... smh at my teenager self

Like any other classical instrument, the prices vary A LOT, but yeah, the cheapest ones still aren't cheap. The flute I still play on now is the first flute I ever got as a 10-year old, lol, because all the other ones I've played on (including the piccolos, rip) I borrowed from my marching band. The one I have is the real deal, though one of the cheapest ones out there, for obvious reasons

I play a bit of guitar and a bit of piano/keyboard
I was tutoried in keyboard  for a few years when I went to elementary school.

What do you play & for how long have you played? Have you been classically trained or are you self-taught?
I learned a bit of guitar from my dad in elementary school too, learned a bit more while attending middle school  since he can play some, I don't remember if I asked or if he just suddenly started teaching me lol.

- Do you have a favorite instrument?
I think the guitar since I feel like I can play more songs on it than the piano.

- Is there a particular instrument you would want & don't have yet?
I don't have a guitar myself, so I'll probably buy one or wish for one when I move out, for now I'll just use my dad's guitars.

yeah, oh well, haha. I'm a little rusty at this point, but I still know how to play, and I'm sure I'll still get a lot of enjoyment out of just playing for fun as an adult when I pick it back up a little more actively again!
