This roleplay is for StrawberryAvalanche and Hurtful.

What are four people supposed to do when zombies decide to populate the Earth?
The answer is probably to kick some ass.

The Characters:

StrawberryAvalanche:

Arabella Lavinski
20

Appearance:
standing at only five foot two weighing around 100lbs, her small stature often helped her remain hidden. however, her hair colours, which she'd dye bright colours, did not. her current colour is probably the most subtle one that she has had, with it only fading from black to almost an unnoticeable red shade. straight teeth, perfect smile, her mother was always pushing her to sign up for pageants and modeling but was shut down every time. randomly scars littered over her body, whether it be from her mothers fits or just from her own clumsiness, Arabella tends to keep herself hidden away in fear of judgement.

Backstory: having grown up as an only child, Arabella was often seen as the golden child. spoiled, praised, and constant opportunities to do great things thanks to her parents wealthiness, you'd often think of their family as right out of a fairy tale. behind closed doors, however, are always much different than what people believe. often almost forced in pageants and runway shows, Arabella refused to have anything to do with her mother. this often caused her to be the target during her mothers frequent fits. her father, whom she loved dearly, tend to hide himself away in his office building and not even come home for weeks on end. leaving her to fend for herself when it came to her mother, Arabella became a very anxious child. avoiding crowds, having to speak to anyone first, even her senior prom she eventually didn't leave her room altogether. she bought a key lock for her door, had a new door her mother couldn't break down installed even, and hid herself away in her bedroom since her high school career ended. though a very sweet child, her anxiety makes her more of the fleeing type, often helping her get out of sticky situations when need be.

Nix Michaelson
25

Appearance: towering over most others, Nix grew to be six foot two, though most wouldn't notice since he's usually seen with his hands in his coat pockets and him just slouched forward wherever he goes. having his mothers' blonde hair and his fathers' green eyes, no one could mistake him for being the child to anyone else. not showing emotion much, the only time an expression is displayed is when he's either deep in thought angered. quite built from the years of nonstop training, he's learned to take a beating and ignore the annoyance of scrapes and bruises that sometimes appear on his body.

Backstory: growing up with a schizophrenic mother, it wasn't always easy. once a week, for his fathers amusement, they'd have movie night which only consisted of the undead taking over the world. his mother, already having breakdowns often over such an idea, would squirm and eventually freak out every movie night and his father would just sit there and watch. not helping her situation any, Nixs' mother eventually whisked him away from his father at the age of fourteen and joined a cult. moving from a home in a peaceful and normal cul-de-sac into a compound with many others that had the same belief as his mother was not easy on Nix. he went from playing manhunt with the other neighborhood kids to beating down other children in his compound he didn't even know the names of. his personality warped from the happy-go-lucky child he one was into the quiet and distanced man he is now. even though he hadn't seen his father since the night they left, he often wonders where he is and even thanks him for all those movie nights, it only set him up to be prepared for the inevitable.

Hurtful:

Kenna Young
21

Appearance: Kenna has been blessed with her mother’s beauty and her father’s rage. She is fairly tall and quite skinny, with muscles that she has achieved from training day and night that make most people hesitant to trouble her. On top of that, her body is oftentimes bruised severely which makes her seem even more unapproachable.

Backstory: From the age of 6, Kenna has been trained to fight the walking dead. The cult that she had grown up in taught her that the time would come when she and a lucky few others were destined to become the sole survivors of the apocalypse, the next generation. She’s grown up filled with honor and pride. It stained her personality quite a lot, although she does not brag a lot. Instead, she distances herself from people she deems unworthy of her time, which in her opinion is basically everyone. She lacks social skills, having spent almost all her free time training for the apocalypse.

Brad Shultz
26

Appearance: Brad is a tall lad (around 6 feet), but carries himself in a way that makes him seem even taller. You’d rarely spot Brad without a smug look on his face. Although his body shows signs of a rough childhood, with long scars across his back from getting abused by his alcoholic father (oftentimes through the use of a belt), although this is a fact he rarely reveals to anyone.

Backstory: He moved from London with his mother when he was about 12, and ever since he’s been nothing but trouble for everyone around him. Especially his mother, who he lost contact with at the age of 15. He lived on the streets for a while, before realizing his talent, and greatest passion in life - being a con-artist. Even though he is obvious trouble, he carries himself in an oddly charming way, and gains the trust of others with ease. And the British accent helps.

I guess a few weeks after the outbreak started in the rest of the world, but only a couple of days before it broke out in the US (where I assume our characters live). So, the cult has had plenty of time to prepare itself.

So, some thoughts about the cult: I'm thinking it's located quite a bit away from the city. It's like a tiny village filled with people. Kenna considers them her family (she doesn't know who her parents are exactly because within the cult, everyone's children are everyone's). She doesn't refer to it as a cult either, and gets horribly upset if anyone dares to do so (but feel free to make your character do that if you want, it will just add conflict which is appreciated).

_

And when the leaders had said their peace, Kenna nodded quietly and exited the main building. It was the first assignment she had gotten since the outbreak and she had been anticipating it the entire week, and now that she had gotten it, it was anticlimactic to say the least. But she knew better than to question her leaders, and she knew that as long as she followed their orders, she would survive. The decision to have her preform the task alongside Nix Michaelson felt a bit far-fetched, though. She couldn't possibly see how he could help, but the leaders had insisted on bringing him with, in case something happened to her. So she headed towards the location she usually saw him training. Not that she usually spent time with Nix, she didn't spend time with anyone to be honest. She just preferred knowing everyones whereabouts in case something happened. When she had finally reached the location she, unsurprisingly enough, spotted him.
"Michaelson!", She said, trying to get his attention.

Brad wasn't scared. He was a sucker for conspiracies, but zombies? Really? He didn't believe it at all at first. Then, when he saw the pictures and videos, his mind didn't instantly change either. Maybe it was photoshop? Or maybe, this was all just a big scam by the government? When the 'zombies' (although he'd never refer to them as that out loud) finally arrived into the town he called his home, he did admit to feeling a bit uncomfortable. Mostly because doing business was hard when everyone was terrified, hiding out in their homes and grasping onto every possession they had. But then, when a news-paper revealed that people were destroying public property and robbing stores, he realized the opportunity he was about to take part of. The hospital on the south-side of the town was located quite far from the inner city, so he figured not many had thought about robbing it yet. So that was what he decided to do. Armed with a couple of unregistered guns, just in case, he got out of his apartment. It was weirdly quiet, and when he got into his car, he was surprised to see that there was absolutely no traffic. The city was almost a ghost-town, he thought as he drove the way, looking out for any of the so called 'zombies'.

Yeah, I was going to have him not care as much about the cult since he was a bit older when they joined.

Nix received word of the leaders urgent meeting and made his way towards the main building. It was an old structure, large in size, with a simple wooden door and it stood out when you compared it with the other much newer looking buildings. Trudging along, he took notice of all the children sitting on benches quietly or the distanced noise of them training. He should be used to the lack of laughter and play by now, but he wasn't. He probably never would be. Once he reached the main building, he slipped inside quietly and stayed by the door during the meeting. He didn't pay much attention, only tuned in when he heard his name. "Kenna Young and Nix Michaelson will be the ones to leave for supplies." That's all he needed to hear and waited til the meeting was concluded before leaving again. Nix didn't make it too far though before he heard his name being called. He turned around slowly, hands in his pocket, and looked to see Kenna behind him. Having an assignment with her wouldn't be too bad, he knew she could handle herself. As long as she wasn't a major talker like those he was paired with in the past was, he'd be content. "Nix," was all he replied with.

Arabella flipped the page in her novel and stretched her legs out in a more comfier position. She had been here for two weeks now, her mother finally getting into her room and paying a couple of psych ward nurses to carry her out in the middle of the night. It was scary, to the say the least, but it was kind of peaceful. Granted, the lack of computer and video games was kind of a bother, but she ignored that with many books. A pile was stacked on the bedside table and she added to it by folding the page in her current book and setting it on top. Standing, Arabella stretched her arms above her head and pushed back the curtains to the barred windows to see the lake that formed behind the hospital. It was around noon time, yet a single nurse had not been in to check on her, it seemed a bit odd but Arabella brushed it away. Maybe they were busy with other patients, she thought. Or maybe they just stopped caring, another voice crept in. Shaking her head a bit, Arabella laid back down onto her bed and opened her book back up.

Kenna eyed Nix up and down and nodded with a motionless expression.
"I know", She said. Introducing herself would be a waste of time, they had a mission, and if was important enough for the leaders to waste two of their best fighters, well, then she had to prioritize getting it done.
"We should go get the weapons and get going so that we are home before sun-down", She said and walked towards the building in which they kept guns and knives. She wasn't keen to small-talk with Nix, but she assumed there were worse people to do missions with. Tracy, her last partner for example, would not shut up. But Kenna did admit to feeling a slight pang of sorrow when she died, mostly because of the wasted potential. After all, Tracy had only been 14 years old. But Kenna made sure to avenge her, with blessings from the leaders of course.
"What is your weapon of choice?", She asked when they had reached the building. She opened the doors, and stared at the impressive collection. She liked being inside the building, something about it made her feel safe and powerful.

_

Brad parked outside the hospital. He used one of the handicap-spots just because he could. He wasn't sure which door lead to the drugs when he walked inside. It didn't seem like anyone had been there for days. No one in the receptions or the waiting-rooms as his steps echoed when he made his way down the hall.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are!", He said, as if the drugs would get out of whatever room they were locked inside of and jump into his arms. But the hospital was more than confusing, and he found himself lost in the maze of endless hallways.

Nix followed behind Kenna into the weaponry building. She was right, they needed to be back before sun-down so the elders could have their medicine sooner rather than later. He wasn't one to care much for the leaders of the cult, but he had a soft spot for the elderly. Stepping into the building, his eyes resorted to a squint, it was much too bright for his liking. Never really caring for weapons, Nix would normally grab something random to bring with, but lately he became particularly fond of a pair of double swords. The obvious choice would've been a gun of some sort, but he didn't like the loud bangs that resonated after each shot, he grabbed a small pistol just in case, though. He slipped it into the holder that was wrapped around his ankle and covered it with the end of his black cargo pants. Nix then silently approached the display case that the swords resided in and gently picked them up. The handles of the two glistened with an emerald green and onyx shine against the bright lights of the building as he slipped them in the holders on his back. Looking around a bit, he found what he was looking for and picked up a small switchblade from the table next to Kenna before gesturing for her to pick. "Your turn," he said. "Let's hurry it up, though," he looked around with a discomforted frown, "it's way too bright in here."

_

Arabellas' hand froze when she heard noises echoing down the hall. Heart beat quickening, she weightlessly hopped out of bed, her fluffy socks thankfully having little grip spots on the bottom so as not to fall. Padding over to the door, she stood on her tip toes to peer out of the small glass window. "Nurse," she whispered with hope, but felt her stomach drop to the floor when she noticed who it was.  A tall man she did not recognize. He can't be here, can he? No, not without a nurse, I'm sure of it, she thought. Quickly dropping back down, Arabella ran towards her window, feeling the familiar flee taking over only to be hit with the fact that it was locked up tight with bars. Biting her lip, she slipped into the bathroom and climbed into the hamper, sitting herself on top of the clothes that lay on the bottom. Placing the lid on top of herself, she hugged her knees to her chest in the cramped area. This is such a shitty hiding place.

Kenna looked at the weapons. Though she preferred to perfect her use of each weapon and not pick favourites, she had always loved the crossbow. It was old school, sure, but according to the leader's scriptures they were fairly effective against the zombies. She also picked out a hand gun, and a couple of knives she stuffed in various compartments of her black uniform. She always wore it, even when she wasn't training. She felt like herself in it, all other clothes just looked weird and hugged her in all the wrong places.
"I'll drive", She said and headed towards the cars. She chose the one that would blend in the best, though she doubted there would be much traffic. Kenna was one of the few that had the luxuries of learning how to drive, and though she didn't have the opportunity to do it often, she was pretty good at it.
She put the crossbow under a blanket on the backseat before hopping into the driver's seat.

Brad saw a sign. It read psyciatric ward, which made him even more pissed of.
"I'm not even getting close to the drugs, am I?", he muttered to himself and looked around. Suddenly, he got a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach. He could've sworn he saw something move in the corner of his eye, inside one of the rooms, and as he made his way towards the room in question, he saw something in the window he walked past.
"What the hell?", He said, as he watched something crawl on top of his car right outside. He tried to get a closer look and realized that whatever the creature was, it was not a human. He swore loudly.
"Shit, shit shit.", He said and grabbed his loaded gun. He needed to find the drugs quickly, kill whatever that thing was, and get the hell out of there.

Nix, only knowing the basics of how to drive from when he used to hang out with the older kids, silently thanked whomever was watching them and hopped in the passenger seat. He immediately got comfortable and hung an arm out the window. The weather was perfect to him, warm but just enough breeze to keep him from getting too hot. Running a hand through his blond hair, Nix enjoyed the silence. It wasn't too often that he was able to enjoy such a luxury, what with children's war calls as they train and the constant chatter that littered the compound. He couldn't even enjoy it in his own section where it was just him and his mother, the constant conversation she'd have with herself was just as bad as outside. Though, he knew it wasn't her fault. Nix eventually came back to present time and furrowed his brows. "What exact medication are we supposed to get? It's not like we know what they even have," he directed towards Kenna, eyes trained out the passenger window.

_

Arabella waited til she no longer heard footsteps and quietly exited the hamper. If he was able to get into the psych ward, then there's no nurses nearby, she frantically thought. Not feeling safe, she went towards the bookshelf and grabbed her black leather drawstring book bag and started to fill it. She grabbed the book she was in the middle of reading, two extras, clothes, her childhood stuffed animal that she couldn't dare part with, and anything extra she could think of. Slipping on a pair of dark washed, ripped skinny jeans and a black hoodie, Arabella searched for her shoes. It took her a couple of minutes but she found them wedged between the wall and bookshelf. Lacing up her black boots, Arabella scanned the room in search of anything else she was missing. "Dad," she whispered. She walked towards the book shelf once more to pick up the photo of her and her parents. She didn't care for her mother one bit but she couldn't get rid of the photo because it reminded her of when her family was happier. Arabella slipped it into a side pocket of her bag and slipped out of the room and noiselessly down the hall. Everything was way too quiet. Her heart raced.

Kenna had her eyes on the road while picturing the names of the drugs they were supposed to collect.
"Anything that contains eperidine, carbatrol, or lithium. And valporic acid of course", She said and took a right turn.
"We're almost there.", She said. She didn't spot any zombies yet, or any humans for that matter. But zombies tended to be more active during nighttime anyways, so it was only natural.
_

Brad jogged across the halls, when finally, he saw a door with some weird bars on it. He assumed that was to keep people out, which made him want to get in. He tried to open it with his bare strength a couple of times, but realized there was no use. He had no key, and though he was scared of alerting whatever thing was outside by making a lot of noise, he had no choice but to pull the trigger at the lock. And it opened up.
"Finally", He smiled and started filling up the plastic bag he had had in his pocket, and then his pockets, and then his pants. He didn't even bother reading the labels, just went for those who seemed the most hidden. Those were often the strongest ones.

Nix nodded. "Yeah, I won't remember any of those," he said nonchalantly. Curious as he was to see an actual zombie, he was very much keen on avoiding one at all costs. He let a moment pass before speaking up again. "How long have you been apart of this.. thing?" He finally broke eye contact he kept trained out the passenger window and looked over at Kenna, his green eyes just watching her. "I still don't know whether to believe this whole thing is real," he said more to himself than her, "it's too much like the movies my dad would make us watch." It had been awhile since he said anything aloud regarding his father, it felt weird.

_

"Eek!" A loud bang echoed from somewhere down one of the many hallways. Arabella quickly hurried in the opposite direction, but didn't make it far when she noticed something outside one of the windows. Someone was dragging themselves down from the top of a car and onto the hood. No, wait, not someone, something. It was sickly and grotesque looking and Arabella had to throw her sleeve practically in her mouth to keep herself from screaming and alerting whomever that strange man was. Blue eyes wide, she felt her breath hike up and without thinking, ran down a hallway at random. "What the fuck is going on?!"

Kenna tightened her grip on the wheel, as she tried to compose herself into not slapping Nix in his face.
"While I'd do anything to avoid having a heart to heart with you, this 'thing', is actually my life. And it's yours too, however long you've been part of it.", She said and took another turn.
"So at least have the courtesy of respecting the leaders by not questioning them, after all that they've done for us.", She finished, and realized the hospital was near. Upon getting closer, she noticed something parked in front of it, a car that had been occupied by no less than a zombie.
_

Brad had nearly emptied the room of drugs when he heard the scream of someone and then running steps. He was just about to look for whoever had yelled when he saw her running down the hallway. It seemed to be a little girl. He stuffed the gun in his waistband and made sure all the pill-bottles weren't too obvious (which was a nearly impossible task), before attempting to stop her.
"What are you doing here? Where are your parents?" He asked.

Nix shrugged, "if you were suddenly tossed into a giant.." He struggled to move his hands about to describe the compound, but failed to do so. "You'd understand where I'm coming from." He dropped the conversation, figuring there was never a way for her to understand. Most of the kids he had to grow up with there would never understand. Nix shifted in his seat, attempting to get comfortable until they arrived. That was, until he noticed the once-was-a-human stumbling over a parked car. "Uggh," he groaned, "why now?"

Searching for either a nurse or a way out, Arabellas eye quickly scanned every room she passed by and checked a few doors only to find the locked. A keycard needed to be in her possession to get through them. Just as she was about to push against another door. a voice popped up from behind her. Arabella spun around. "Uh," she stuttered, "I'm kind of staying here, right now?" She didn't know what else to say. "Where's a nurse? How did you get in this ward?" She placed her hands on her hips, trying to give off the impression of courage. "You can't be in here without a nurse," she stated matter-of-factly. Arabella swallowed, her throat drying up.
