i like yours the best ! i like the idea of them being on the outside, maybe being best friends with just one of the people in the mystery-solving-group, and so that person lets them in on all of their clues and stuff? so they got all of the information, but no one else in the groups really pays attention to them (or something like that)

And like, the person who tell them all this stuff makes sure they don't tell anyone what they are told
So no one ever really knows that they know

And then theh put the pieces together and notices a lot of clues can be linked to them and their powers
So they try to fix that because they're innocent
But that only makes it worse

If before, what would cause it? 
before could be kinda cool ! maybe an electrical surge or something? and after the surge, some people went missing, while others started discovering strange powers slowly

also maybe not everyone was affected by it/even realised it happened, so it could be people doing a specific thing at the time? like those who werent affected just experienced a small power surge, but those affected experienced maybe like a minor electrocution or something
