(ok since cooper is a side-character, i wont go into the lengths of writing out his arrival)

As Tessa spotted a boy being the first to sit in the circle, this prompted her to go and have a seat as well. She sat down a bit away from him, and glanced at him whenever he wasn't looking. He seemed to be the only person in the room who was her age so far. Everyone else looked to be above thirty or something. It didn't take long until everyone were starting to get seated as well, probably prompted by the two of them sitting down. Funny how people just copy other people's behaviour. She sat in silence, observing everyone and how they were interacting - or not interacting - with each other. One was sitting with a few cookies in her hand. She looked well above forty, and had thin, wispy hair. She gave Tessa the creeps. The rest looked fairly normal, she thought.

Only two people were talking with each other, so she supposed they knew each other from elsewhere, considering this was a first time group. At least that's what she was told by her psychiatrist. That way, her psychiatrist had said, she wouldn't be the only new person, and it might be easier for her to blend in.

She heard the door open once more. This time the stream of people entering the room had died down, so it seemed to catch everyone's attention. Through the door walked a guy, dressed in vintage clothing, who strolled through the room as if this wasn't his first rodeo. He sat down on one of the chairs, somewhat aggressively, she thought, and leaned back in the chair, in a manner that suggested he was way too comfortable with the whole situation. He crossed his legs, his right foot resting atop his left knee, and he caught her eye. She didn't break eye contact at first, but then started to feel awkward, as neither did he. She looked away, staring at people's feet, while absentmindedly picking at the skin on her fingers, waiting for the meeting to start. It didn't seem like the coordinator of the meeting had arrived yet, so everyone was doing as she was - minding their own business.

(oh btw, do you wanna play the coordinator/therapist-thingy or should i?)

(yeah that sounds good tbh, probably won't give alex too much of an arrival either haha
could you be the therapist guy person? hehe)

Benjamin saw someone who seemed to be around his age - he of course couldn't know for sure, there were people in their forties who looked to be 25 - sit down a few chairs from him. She was pretty. He wondered if she knew she was. He hoped so.
He looked down at his shoes, not wanting to seem weird by looking at someone for too long, and felt himself getting impatient; the meeting was supposed to start soon, and the therapist hadn't even arrived yet. Wasn't the therapist supposed to be there before anyone else?

He heard the door open, and looked up in hopes of the meeting finally starting, but the guy who entered didn't say a word and sat down in a chair that didn't at all seem like the place the therapist would sit in.
After that guy, came another; but this one had such a look in his eyes as if he was terrified to be there, and that didn't seem likely for someone who talked to people for a living.
The boy, who seemed to be around his twenties just like the girl and the over-confident seeming guy, sat down close to a corner and looked straight down into the ground, not giving anyone his attention.

After a while of waiting, and another person - seemingly one of the last people here for the therapy - had entered, in came a man, clad in a white dress shirt and suit jacket over, but wearing blue jeans. He had a shoulder bag with him, but it didn't seem like it was very heavy, as it was more of a cloth than an actual bag, and had it been heavy, it would've been visibly so.

"Sorry I'm late, the traffic was a bitch," he said nonchalantly, as he closed the door behind him. He went and sat in the last remaining seat and placed the bag on the ground, before examining the room. "So, as you all know, this is a generalised group therapy, meaning not everyone here might have the same problems. We are here to discuss whatever might be on your minds, and do some individual exercises - and remember, the most important rule of all is tolerance. Nothing said in this room is stupid or not good enough - everyone has their own issues, and that's what we're here for. That, and therapist/patient discretion. Meaning, don't go blabbering about what other's might have mentioned in here, outside of the room." He took a long look at everyone, then quickly added. "Oh, and I'm Terrance Matthews. You can just call me Terry." He smiled at the last comment, before examining everyone once more. No one seemed to have anything to say at the moment.

"So, any questions before we begin today's session?"

Tessa stared at her fingers obsessively, having no interest in actively joining for the moment.

(could you maybe play one of the other patients then? one of the older ones, just so that someone asks him a question or something hehe)

(sure!)

Benjamin looked at the man. He seemed so... laid-back? Benjamin guessed that was good, though. Someone who easily spoke to people and had no problem with anyone at all felt like good traits for someone who worked with mentally ill people.
It was quiet for a while, nobody seemed to have anything to say. Benjamin wanted Terrance to give up, not wait anymore, and just get on with the meeting, but it seemed he was patient and gave people the time to speak up.

Someone cleared their throat, before speaking up. "Why was it decided it would be a meeting for all mental illnesses?"

Benjamin looked toward the woman speaking up. She seemed to be in her late thirties?
He let out a quiet sigh. This didn't feel important. It felt so unnecessary, this whole thing felt unnecessary. Why did he have to go somewhere to talk to random people about his problems? Why did people he didn't know have to know about his eating disorder, why did they have to know anything about him?

(pffft i suck at coming up with random questions im sorry hahahahahah)

(lmfao i didnt know how to answer that so i just made something up hahaha)

"Well," Terrance said, patiently, "this is free group therapy provided by your health care plans, meaning it unfortunately cannot be specifically designed toward the individual. It is meant to function as an addition to other forms of therapy and treatment, mainly as a way for you all to find people of somewhat the same age and background with whom you can share an experience. I'm here for guidance, and not so much as a psychiatrist." He paused for a moment.

"But to answer your question honestly, it is simply because this counts as a public service, and this is what the state could afford to provide free of charge. Anything else?" He looked around the group, and seeing as no one else seemed to have anything else to say, he then said, "Alright, well then. Let's get started. First off, I would like for you all to become acquainted, so let's start off with a plain ol' round of introductions." He looked to his left, signalling the person sitting next to him to start. It was the woman Tessa had observing hoarding a bunch of cookies earlier, and she introduced herself. Tessa didn't pay much attention to the names of the people, as she knew she wouldn't be able to remember in a minute anyway.

After about three people introducing themselves, it was the oddly dressed guy's turn. "I'm Cooper," he said, without hesitation. He was still positioned in the rather flaunting manner, with his right foot atop of his left knee, sitting with his legs across, but in a more flashy manner. He eyed her once more, as he introduced himself, and she looked away once more. She really had to stop staring so obviously.

A few people down the row, and it came to be her turn. "Um, I'm uh, Tessa." It wasn't like she was embarrassed, and she wouldn't exactly say that she was a shy person, she was just, well... Okay, maybe she was a bit shy. Reserved, rather. Why was this important again? Oh right, because of the way she introduced herself. She kept overthinking the way she had presented herself, the way she hesitated. As if she didn't even know her own name. Stupid. The group moved on to the next person presenting themself, but she didn't pay attention to this, as she was preoccupied with hearing her own presentation over and over inside her head.

(okay just for clarification, i dont have the impression of tessa as a shy person, or a worrisome person at that, she just has a tendency to overthink everything, and repeat phrases (mainly only in her thoughts, but sometimes also out loud) etc. due to her communication deficits. i have this image of her as being pretty confident and laid back. anyway just wanted to mention that, in case i dont portray it properly haha)

(pffft thats alright haha)

Benjamin only paid attention to the people who seemed to be around his own age, whose names turned out to be Cooper and Tessa. Cooper was very confident in his talk as well as his walk it seemed (pfft i hate myself), while Tessa seemed more reserved. Maybe shy, even. Although one couldn't possibly know for sure, Benjamin himself wasn't very good at introducing himself, but generally actually didn't have a problem talking to people.

After a few more people it was his own turn.
"I'm Benji. Or, well, my name's Benjamin, but people like to call me Benji." He quietly cursed himself for saying his nickname first, but let it go. There wasn't much he could do about it.
When there was only a few people left, it was the last person who seemed to be his age's turn. He mumbly introduced himself, and was asked to speak a little louder, and was able to let out "Alex" before he quickly looked down on the ground again. He really seemed to hate social interaction.

(sounds great yo)

"Okay then, now that that's in order, would anyone volunteer to share something? And, just to clarify, in case there's any question about what is allowed to share - anything is allowed. So long as it is something you consider a personal issue that hinders your every day life, or anything else you feel the need to share, just know that that is what we're here for. There is no judgment, and sharing isn't mandatory, however I would like if everyone gets to share something at least once over the course of the next month - meaning the next four sessions, including this one." He smiled at everyone, and Tessa felt at ease around him. Something about him seemed nice. Maybe because he was. She also noted that she thought he had a kind looking face, which probably also contributed to the factor.

There was silence for a while, after he stopped talking, and he sighed quietly, yet still somehow seemed patient. "Did any of you experience any trouble getting here?" He asked, as an ice breaker. "That could be anything you deem troubling," he then clarified. He glanced around the room, but Tessa noticed him looking a bit more intently at some than others. Probably the people he thought might be more inclined to share than the others.

(i was thinking id make them do like a round of sharing or something, and then there would be a small coffee break where our characters would have the chance to get to know each other a bit. does benji smoke? because maybe him and cooper could talk a bit outside :V i was thinking benji and cooper would be pretty fun to have interact with each other as well as tessa and alex - that would probably come a bit later though)

(ooohh yeah that's true! i can let him be a smoker, but like he doesn't smoke very much, like mostly once or twice a day)

Benjamin looked around. Nobody seemed to have had any trouble getting to the meeting, as nobody seemed to speak up. Then again, most of the people here probably had a license and maybe even a car, and he guessed most of them drove here.

Benjamin noticed the extremely shy boy clench his fists atop his legs, before slowly raising his hand.
"I, um... I was gonna drive here, but... um, well, the car... the car wouldn't start up so I, I had to take the bus. I-I-I guess that counts as some kind of trouble?" he managed to say loud enough for everyone to hear, although it was extremely shaky and Benjamin thought the boy was gonna pass out right there. Just collapse down from the chair. Or maybe his head would just fall back, and he'd still sit on the chair, completely passed out. What would Terrance say then? What would he do? What would Benjamin have done if that happened?

Terrance gave the boy, Alex, a gentle smile followed by a slow nod. "That counts, yes," he said, approvingly. "Did anyone else take the bus today?" He then asked, as to include more people into the conversation.

Tessa, amongst a few others including Cooper, raised their hands. Terrance nodded in understanding, and then followed with another question. "How many of you take public transport on regular basis?" Again, a few people raised their hands, including Tessa.

"I see. Now, since this is generalised therapy, a factor that is common for a lot of people, is a feeling of anxiety. So maybe we could start there. Do any of you experience anxiety when taking public transport?"

(btw when are you going to bed? just curious since i have a tendency to stay up and wait for people if they dont tell me theyre going to bed XD)

Both Benjamin and Alex raised their hands.

Benjamin hated taking public transportations, as he felt everyone was looking at him, staring at him, judging how he looked. It made him want to curl up into a small ball and disappear until he reached his destination.
He barely ever took public transportation because of this, and usually he just asked his mom to drive him as he himself didn't have a license. But at the times he did take public transportation, he tried to sit as far away from other people as possible.
