Marie listened to the attempt at a conversation going on between the boy at the table and the apple girl, wondering. All the other people could be doctors. Or none of them could. No matter what, the doctors would be watching, probaby from behind the mirror wall. It was strange looking into it, it was only on rare occasions there were mirrors present when the doctor worked. Her hair had grown longer since last time, it seemed. What did the doctors want with her? With them all - assuming none of the others were doctors in disguise, of course. It seemed like the other people thought like that too. But that was probably a thing a doctor in disguise would say, to draw the attention away from themselves. ¨But why though? What was the purpose with any of this?
Suddenly Marie felt a small rumbling in the pit of her stomach, growing larger, louder. Her nose had caught the scent of some of the food on the table. She considered for a moment, then made up her mind. The food might be poisoned, but the chance was fairly small - the others had eaten already without signs of poisoning. The others might be doctors but if so, there wasn't much to do about it. And the chance of that being the case wasn't that likely, she thought, or well, she hoped. She walked slowly to the table, picking up some kind of fruit that she had never seen before. It smelled good.
