Sage stiffened at first, shocked by Renee's sudden actions, but slowly relaxed and hugged her back. You'd probably be better off without me... just like everyone else... "Alright, well..." Sage got up and sat back on the windowsill. "You know, you shouldn't have thanked me..."

Inside the door of Sage's memory contained one of her deepest secrets. Her and a boy, both about the age of seven, were running up a hill, holding pinkies. "I'm tired!" Sage complained. He laughed and ran ahead of her, still dragging her (not literally) by the hand. "Just a little bit more!" he said. "Come on, you can do it!" he said encouragingly. She ran up the last few feet of the hill before collapsing at the top, breathing heavily. "That... was so... much further... than you said!" she said in between gasps of air. He laughed. "I wanted to bring you up here to show you something." he said. Sage looked up at him. "What is it Ryan?" He pulled something out of his back pocket and put it in the palm of her hand, encasing her fingers around it. "A promise ring. If you promise to be my friend forever, I'll give you this ring." he said. Sage smiled. "I promise." She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. The image faded and was replaced with one when they were thirteen. She was talking to Ryan, about to tell him that she liked him. "... and I met this girl. She's beautiful and I think I'm in love. I'll have to show you her later." Sage was heartbroken. The image faded as well, replaced once again with one a year later. He was holding on to the ledge of a cliff, hanging off the edge. "Help me, Sage! Pull me up, plea-" "You chose her!" Sage screamed. He was shocked. "Sage, you should have been happy for me! I thought I had found true love!" Sage stared, hatred in her eyes. Ryan sighed and looked her in the eye on last time. "You promised." he said calmly. With that his hand slipped and he fell.

I didn't know you loved him so much. I would have never ever said yes!" Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at Sage, "Why Sage? Why did you forgive me after I hurt you so. This is all my fault. I was the reason he died." Renee looked up to see the pain in Sage's eyes.
