maybe one morning, a few weeks or months after they've split?

Alright, I'll go for a few weeks after, as they could still be living together as neither's moved out yet?
---
Mitch was sat on the sofa in the flats living room watching tv, or rather more staring at the tv, as he felt his mind start to wander as it often did these days. Since the split the atmosphere around the house had changed rather drastically, as everything now seemed much flatter, and dull. Needless to say it hadn't been easy since the incident, everything had seemed to go down hill so quickly. Everyone had always told him how the drugs were a mistake, how he needed to stop, and Ava of all people had been the most insistent about it. He'd always promised her he'd change, and she'd told him, or reminded him, after it all about all these big future plans they'd had, but he couldn't even remember parts of it. As much as he knew that one was often supposed to be sad after breakups, he felt nothing, just numb, and not even numb in the way that he'd been deeply affected by it, he just was capable of those feeling any more. Even still the change in Ava's attitude had unsettled him slightly, as he knew he was responsible. He wanted to remember everything, and feel again, however to both himself, and doctors, it was a mystery.

Amy was dead tot he world, and currently blissfully unaware of the fact that she was curled up in the arms of her flat mate, in nothing but a tshirt - his tshirt. Even by her standards the previous night out had been one of the best, with them hitting may of their favourite spots around the city with their friends. Although many of their friends had left, what she considered to be, early she had been determined to keep the party spirit alive and stay out. As Alec was her flat mate she had convinced him to stay out a little longer with her, but that's about as far back as her mind could go clearly. As the morning dawned, and the noise from the city out side grew louder, Amy stired and opened her eyes slightly. She yawned, and blinked briefly as everything came into focus. Then it hit her. "Fuck." She muttered, as she caught sight of the topless Alec next to her. Bringing a hand up to her head (Which was aching thanks to last night) she looked down at herself, and sighed. Surely they didn't...?

Ava sighed a little as she sat on the kitchen counter, her head leaning back against the cupboard behind her. She barley got any sleep, although that wasn't a rare thing. She didn't get much sleep at all, her mind was to busy thinking of things from the past. When she was around Mitch in the apartment she just tried to forget anything she ever felt for him, to try and become emotionless towards him. And by doing that her mind filled up, and filled up until at the end of the night it was swirling around madly like a storm. The hardest thing about the entire situation was that while he felt nothing, she still felt everything she use to feel for him. She still loved him and every time he said something or looked at her blankly it was like it hit her all over again. Another thing was, was that she felt extremely guilty for leaving him. Part of her felt like she should have stuck by him, especially after what a mess he had been in. But when he opened his eyes after being in a coma for a few weeks it just broke her heart to see the man she was in love with look at her as if she was nothing to him. She knew that wasn't his fault but it just got harder and harder. The guilt was always bad, especially since they still lived in the same apartment. She had been looking at other places but she couldn't really bring herself to leave. Though some bad things had happened in this apartment some really lovely and beautiful things had happened too. Leaving would be like letting go of the love that they had once shared completely. She took a big gulp of her coffee and then hopped off of the counter and walked over to the kettle, boiling it once again. Ava loved coffee, if she didn't drink more than three cups a day then something was definitely wrong. She refilled her mug and walked into the living room. She placed the mug on the table and then sat in the arm chair curling herself up into a tiny ball, not even noticing that Mitch was also in the room. She was exhausted and just feeling sad, so she was in her own little world.

Alec was bang out net to Amy. He hadn't even woken up since his head hit the pillows. He had had an amazing night before with one of his really good friends and they had stayed out til god knows when. After a while his eyes began to stir and eventually opened. He felt like her had a teddy bear in his arms so he reached out and pulled the teddy bear closer to him, wrapping his arms around it's middle. It was a cosy, nice smelling teddy bear. He opened his eyes and looked around. He yawned and then  looked at what he thought was a teddy bear. It wasn't a teddy bear at all, it was Amy. His best friend. He was wearing his shirt. He looked down at his topless and chest and bit his lip ''Fuck. What happened last night:? I can't remember anything after we got back.''

Mitch's eyes were dragged away from the tv screen as he heard the sound of the kettle starting to boil, but didn't see the point in getting up when he didn't necessarily need to. A slightly sigh escaped his lips but he looked back to the tv, not even knowing what was on any more, and he reached over to get the remote from the coffee table. He proceeded to flick through channels, pausing as Ava entered. Part of him was unsure of whether or not to actually greet her, as he'd noticed that even seemingly simple stuff like that upset her. He watched her for another moment, and realised that she had drifted off in her mind again, she seemed to be doing that a lot lately. Despite the perpetual sadness throughout the room he figured he may as well say something, "Hey." He greeted plainly.

Amy shifted slightly as she felt his arms tighten around her; it was time to face the music. She sighed once again, looking at him briefly but turned away before he opened his eyes, she felt almost embarrassed somehow. Her eyes closed for a moment as she ran a hand through her hair, shrugging. "I don't know.." She stated, "If I'm honest I was that drunk I don't even properly recall making it home.." She added, laughing weakly.

Ava gave him a tiny smile ''Hi,'' she said quietly, never too sure how to act around him.  She sipped her coffee before she placed her mug down on the side and rubbed her eyes, letting out a yawn. She couldn't help but smile a little wider when she heard his voice, it was always a bit of a comfort to her, it was one thing that hadn't changed. ''How are you? How did your doctors appointment go the other day? I haven't had the chance to ask.'' she asked, trying to hide the caring tone in her voice but she failed. Even though they weren't together anymore she still made sure she knew how he was getting on and stuff because she wanted to know he was ok. He still had the occasional doctors appointment to see how things were going. She took a sip of her coffee and turned so she was facing him. She wanted to try to talk to him again, to at least be friends but it was so hard to be around him when she wasn't sure how to act. Was she suppose to act how she would have been the overdose? Act happy and lovey like she usually would? or did she have to forget her emotions to make things easier for him? She sighed, once again feeling guilty. She felt like she should have stuck by him but she just didn't know what to do. ''I erm I was looking through my closet the other day and I found a box that's yours. its got photos and things from when you were younger and from when we were together and stuff, do you want them or?'' she asked, she wasn't sure if he would want pictures of them from when they were together ''I can take the pictures of us out if you like.. you probably don't want those.'' she said as she glanced over at him. It felt strange looking at him, usually when they were around each other now she tried to avoid looking at him because part of her didn't want to see what he had become, compared to who he was before. But today she wanted to see him, she missed his face. She missed him. She took a deep breath as she looked back down, having remind herself that things were different now. She often forgot.

Alec groaned and laid back in the bed ''Fuck, if you cant remember and I cant, what the hell did we do?'' he asked as he ran his hands through his hair. ''Are you wearing anything under my shirt?'' he asked, trying to work out if he just gave her his shirt and then they went to sleep or if they did something. He sighed ''Is your head pounding like mine is?'' he asked, letting out a yawn.

Mitch returned the smile, even if he didn't feel it, as he placed  the remote back onto the table. "Fine I guess," He shrugged, "Same as always, it's still a mystery, but they've decided to up my meds again, so I suppose we'll see." He explained, wishing there was more to tell her since she always seemed so concerned. Once again his eyes went to the tv, as he became slightly unsure what to. As she explained about the photos he grew curious, "No, I'd, uh, I'd like that." He replied, wanting to show her that he wanted to remember. "Leave them in, it's fine," He added.

Amy pulled the covers around her more, realising that she wasn't, and gave a brief shake of her head. "This bodes well then.." She muttered, making brief accidental eye contact with him and quickly darting her eyes away. All signs currently pointed to something having happened between them. She then smirked, rubbing her head again, "Yeah, just a little bit!"

Ava nodded "I wish they would hurry up and figure out a way to help you other than just giving you meds. Have you still got the headaches?" She asked as she sipped her coffee and looked over at him. She sighed, all she wanted was to go and sit next to him and cuddle up in his arms. She missed the relaxing feeling he always have her and the little flutter in her tummy she would always get from being around him. She missed him so much it hurt. She gave him a small smile and nodded "Ok," she smiled "I'll go and get them for you now." She said and quickly went up to her bedroom. They use to share the room but obviously with how things had happened Mitch had his own now. She grabbed the photos and took one last look st them. She picked them top one up and hit her lip, she hoped he would let her keep that one. She went back down to the living room and handed him the box. "Would it be ok if I kept the first one? It's one of my favourite photos of us together. My friend took it at the exact moment you told me you loved me for the first time." She said as she looked away, her lip trembling as she remembered it. They had been cuddled up on the beach one summers evening after they had been together for about seven months. You could see how happy and in love they both were.

Alec nodded "That's alright then. Nothing too bad could have happened." He said as he sat up, running his hands through his hair. "You know you're like a cuddly teddy bear, I was enjoying that cuddle before I woke up." He teased "at least if you have underwear on nothing too bad could have happened. And mine too. Feels like I'm being hit with a hammer. Want to go and get some greasy breakfast food to soak up the alcohol?"

"You and me both," Mitch replied, having grown weary of the whole thing. His eyes followed her briefly as she left the room. Upon her return he took the box, intrigued to look at the contents, but his eyes were torn away as she began to speak. "Of course, I guess if you think about it they're as much yours as they are mine." He mused, glancing down from her to the box and back again. He noted that as she spoke about the image she seemed to grow said, yet her voice seemed sort of enthusiastic. Out of the corner of his eye his saw theiir expressions, and they both looked so happy, why couldn't he just go back to normal? "Hey, maybe you could go through these with me..?" He tralled off, unsure how she'd take this, " I mean, the doctors said stuff like this could maybbe help, triggers or something.." He explained.

Amy smirked at this, "Weirdest compliment I think I've ever gotten!" She laughed, feeling a little more at ease now. She turned to look at him for a moment, "But, irrespective of how wonderful we know I am, I don't think we should make a habit of it?" She said, jokingly. Her hands rubbed her head again, and she nodded, "Sounds great," She grinned, knowing it'd be a case of killing 2 birds with one stone, as in theory it'd take her mind off it and help with her hangover.

Ava nodded and smiled a little "I suppose they are. There's so many. You got me a new camera once and we went a bit crazy, taking pictures all the time wherever we went. I've got tons in my room." She said with a little laugh, feeling a little more relaxed as they spoke. When he suggested going through the pictures together she nodded straight away "Sure." She said softly as she took a seat next time him. "Listen.. I want to say that I'm really sorry for breaking things off when I did. I've been feeling guilty ever since because I shouldn't have done that. I should stuck with you instead of just leaving you to deal with this on your own. I just.. It's really hard. To remember what things use to be like and know that they might never be the same... It breaks my heart. But I shouldn't have put my own feelings before you because out of the two of us it's probably worse for you. And I'm just really sorry. I'm also sorry if it seems like I've been avoiding you, it's just hard to know how to act. Because before I just acted like your girlfriend doing everyhing s girlfriend does but it's just hard to know how I'm suppose to act. So yeah.. I'm really sorry. And I'm sorry for just spitting all of this out its just been in my head for a while and I needed to get it out."

Alec chuckled "Are cuddles with me really that bad?" He teased "But I agree. Things could get weird between us and I don't want that." He said as he got out of bed and stretched, his muscles flexing as he did so. "Great. I'm gonna go shower and we can go after that." He said as he went had a shower, wondering what  could have happened the night before. He was curious because he had always sort of fancied Amy so was interested to have known what he had said the night before. And he was interested to see what Amy had said.

Mitch smiled, it pleased him to see her like this, she seemed so much happier and at ease. He gave at slight nod as she agreed, knowing this was good as it'd mean she'd feel better, and turned to her as she sat down. A frown came over his face as she poured out her feelings, and he shook his head, "Don't be, when it comes down to it, it is my fault. I can understand why you feel that way, I've hardly been the best person to be around. I think if it was the other way round, I'd do the same," He started too explain, though as it was based on feelings there were parts which sadly were only hypothetical. "I think, that if anything, we both need time to get our heads around all this. I wish you'd have mentioned sooner, not that I'd have been much help but hey.. I'm at a loss with it all too, so it's not like you're the bad one here, leaving me - I'm not even capable of feeling what I should as a boyfriend.." He sighed, unsure of what, if anything, to say.

Amy faked a grimace, "Yeah awful." She laughed, before nodding, as she totally agreed with this. As he got out of bed she could help but glance at his topless physique, she hadn't really noticed how muscular he was before, though was sure to look away before he turned back to her. "Alright," She replied, waiting until he left the room to exit the bed, as she knew the tshirt would barely cover her butt, since he wasn't much taller than her, and she figured that he didn't really need to see that right now.

Ava nodded, trying to keep her tears from falling because she could feel them welling in her eyes. "That's true, anyone would probably do the same in a situation like this. It's pretty hard for anyone to know how to act. I just wish that I had stuck by you because for all we know you could get better and then I've just left you to deal with it on your own." She said as she tugged on the end of her hair a little. It felt good to talk about this, she had been keeping it all inside for so long. "I agree, we need to get our heads round it and see how things work out from there. I think the worst thing that I do though is forget that things aren't how they use to be. There are times if I've looked at photos or if I've got lost in memories that I start to think that things are how they use to be and then I keep expecting you to come and  give me that big smile that only came out around me and hold me in your arms like you use to. It's hard to remember that your not capable of feeling that way anymore. I have to stop myself from coming and cuddling up to you and stuff like that." She said as she looked down at the photo in her hand "Do you think it would be helpful if I moved out?" She asked quietly, wiping her eyes.

Alec quickly showered, washing his hair and body with his nice smelling shampoo and shower gel. Once he had gotten out he wrapped a towel around his waist before going back into his room. He got dried and changed into some clean boxers. He then pulled on some jeans and a tshirt that hugged his muscles. After spraying on some aftershave and shoving his feet into his converse he walked out of the room and headed down to the living room. "Ready when you are, Amy." He said as he grabbed some paracetamol and a bottle of water and swallowed them quickly.

Mitch sighed inwardly, and offered out a hand, hoping that it might reassure her as he hated to see her so sad. He dreaded to think what it'd been like for her, keeping it all in this way. "It's not been long, I've coped, it's not like you don't need time to heal after all this too," He reminded her, knowing that it would've been traumatic for her too. "I wish I could remember this stuff, feel again. I don't know much, but I have learned I don't like seeing you sad," He sighed, listening intently as she tried to verbalise the thoughts in her head, illustrating the loss she had suffered. As she made this suggestion he bit the inside of his lip, "I don't know," Mitch began. honestly, "But it's not just about me, is it? If you think it'll help you maybe you should?"

Amy entered her room, and sat down in front of her mirror, running a hand through her hair, before removing the tshirt and discarding it on the floor. She picked out her clothes (www.polyvore.com/outfit_113/set?id=175229285), grabbing her favourite pair of jeans. Then she proceeded to spend a little longer than usual applying makeup and fixing her hair, for what reason she wasn't too sure. Before exiting the room she spritzed some perfume on herself, and headed to the door to put on her boots. She then walked into the kitchen, to pick up some painkillers, smirking as she saw them already on the counter, and swallowed them with a small glass of water. "Coming!" She called, heading in the direction of his voice.

Ava's heart skipped a beat when he offered her a hand and she took it, sighing gratefully . It was strange, she felt whole again when she held his hand. She just didn't want to let go. She nodded her head in agreement, forgetting that although it had massively affected him, it had also affected her. She had lost the man she had been in love with for a long time and you don't get over that quickly. Ava nodded ''I bet it's horrible for you, not being able to feel when you probably want to. It must be so strange. And really?'' she asked with a little smile, happy that he at least felt something for her. She nodded ''I know it's not just about you but I don't know.. I don't know what to do. I feel like if I leave I'm letting go of everything we had. I'm letting go of the memories we had here and then I don't know.. if I leave am I letting go of any possible chance we might have if things change and the doctors work out a way to help you?'' she asked with a sigh. She was just scared that if she left she would lose him for good.

Alec smiled a little when he heard her foot steps. He grabbed his keys and sunglasses and then went and waited for her by the front door. When his eyes landed on her he couldn't help but smile, she looked amazing to say that she had a raging hangover. ''You look nice today.'' he said as he opened the front door for her and let her go out first.
