There's this woman, you know her but then you don't. You see her but you don't know her story, not really, in fact no one does as all they have time to do is judge her but not you, rather than judge her you just worry. She's streetwise, she's tough, she's feisty but she's so vulnerable it breaks your heart not just because you can see it but because nobody else can. She has a reputation you see, as a junky, a good-for-nothing, waste of space, whore and many other things you hear other people refer to her as but for some reason you can just see more than that and you don't even know her, you know her name at most. If that's not bad enough, then there's her boyfriend, a thug who to say the very least who's a dealer, who everyone is afraid of and wouldn't shock you if he hit her around a bit too. You don't even know how but you can tell she's desperate, but will you save her?

Brooke sipped at her smoothie as she propped her feet up onto the chair next to her, relaxing as the warm sunlight beamed on her. It was nice enough to come outside for once, since all it had done was rain and just overall was groggy outside the last couple of weeks. Brushing a strand of hair out of her face, she looked to her left to see a couple of mothers whispering to each other as they stared her down. Brooke rolled her eyes. Small towns suck, she thought as she got to her feet. She picked up her smoothie and left the parks seating area. Pulling out a cigarette, she clenched it between her lips and lit it as she headed in a random direction of the park.

Nix kept up his quite speedy pace as he headed towards the small shoppes located in the center of town. He was late for work, again, and couldn't risk losing this job. His college payments wasn't allowing it. "I'm here, I'm here," he yelled towards his manager who stood on the other side of the store, looking rather annoyed. It was a rather small cafe, business was booming lately, though. It was very popular among the high schoolers this year, a new "hip" thing these days. Dim lighting, rustic decorations; great place for "aesthetic" photos. Nix quickly put on the dark green apron and got to work behind the counter.

Connor was stood just outside his house, doing a few stretches before he started his morning run, which he was happy to be back at again, since the weather had been so bad lately. He pressed play on his music before heading off down the street. The weather was beautiful, and it felt great to have the sun on him again after all the rainy weather. He continued to run, heading down his usual route near the park. Naturally, thanks to the good weather, the park was pretty busy, so he was having to ensure he dodged around people as he continued to run at his pace. The park was mainy full of families, however there were a few older kids and teens around too, all out enjoying the sun.

Teagan had been out most of the evening, although it was now almost 9AM, and was yet to go back home. SHe knew better than to turn up until she'd done everything her boyfriend had asked of her though, but he'd be awake soon, and if she wasn't there for that then things would go south regardless. She ran a hand though her hair as she hit the town centre, knowing she probably looked a state after what she'd been up to already. Her hand reached up to her mouth as she stifled a yawn, causing her to realise she was going to need a caffeine injection before she headed back. She knew there was likely to be a coffee shop nearby, so she kept walking until she would find one.

Brooke pulled out her phone, holding her cigarette and smoothie in one hand and phone in the other. Texts suddenly popped up one after the other, spamming her phone for a good three minutes. All from her boyfriend asking where she was. "The dead has risen," she mumbled to herself as she began to text back. Her chipped navy blue nails tapping away at the screen. Brooke continued walking until something hit her. Hard. Smoothie flew through the air and landed right on her as she stumbled forward and dropped not only her cigarette, but her phone which skidded across the path. "Shit!" Now covered in smoothie, Brooke looked up and caught sight of what caused the impact. A little boy, not even six years old, was brushing dirt off of his knees and tears dripped from his face. She sighed, picking up her cigarette and placing it in her mouth before walking over to him, she flung out a hand. "You okay, kid?" Brooke helped him up and brushed him off, which caused a mother to scream and rip her son away from her.

Nix finished up the over complicated non-fat latte for the petite blonde that stood chatting with her friends. She was a regular, a sophomore if he remembered correctly. She came in daily for the same exact drink everyday that he could start on it before she even asked. Not to mention the girl was a heavy flirt. "Here you go," he grabbed her attention and placed the cup onto the counter, placing to stir straws next to it. "Have a nice day," he said with a bored face. The girl batted her eyelashes and thanked him more sincere than she needed to be. His expression didn't change as he turned his back towards her and helped a few more customers.

Connor continued running, and was just about to turn a corner when he heard the screech of the child's mother, causing him to frown and head swift over to see what was going on. He stopped as he reached the group, an glanced around trying to work out what was going on. "Everything ok here?" He asked, frowning. It was then that he recognised the young women, although was unable to recall her name, but new of her well as she seemed to often frequent the surrounding areas, She didn't have a great reputation, so was concerned about what may have happened her, especially as the kid was hurt, but he didn't want to jump to any sort of conclusions before somebody had explained.

Teagan smiled to herself as her eyes fell on a coffee shop, and she made a beeline towards it. Once inside she smoothed her hair down again, as she noticed it seemed to be full of high schoolers, and despite being so much older them she still felt that familiar sense of intimidation. She joined the queue behind them, waiting impatiently as they all seemed to be trying to flirt with the barista, which made her smirk, as she too would probably have been the same at that age. After the queue infront of her finally cleared she gave the barista a small smile, "Can I get a cappuccino please?" She asked, not even bothering to glance at the menu.

Brooke glared at the woman, reaching down to grab her phone. "Yeah," she said bitterly, not breaking eye contact with the mother, "everything's peachy. Despite her freaking out over me helping her son up after he just ran straight into me and spilled my drink all over me." She gestured towards the front of her which was now covered in smoothie. The mother began to yell insults and Brooke just rolled her eyes, spinning on her heel, and walking in the opposite direction.

Nix looked up to see a familiar girl in front of him. She wasn't very popular among the town, but made her way despite all the hatred towards her. He didn't know her name, as he heard her being called other things, things he'd rather not repeat. Nix nodded his head, "gotcha." He quickly set to work and fixed her her drink, placing it on the counter. "Here." He looked around and noticed the glares from a few of the customers who were seated around, but brushed it off. Assuming it was just jealous students.

Connor nodded slightly, though he could clearly see that wasn't the case, and he glanced once again betweent he mother and the young woman. "I see.." He started, looking own at her shirt, which was indeed covered in smoothie, and he was about to continue before the mother cut in. He sighed as the young woman walked off, and he looked at the mother, "M'am with all due respect I don't think you should be speaking round your kid." He noted, "YOu ought to be a little less judgemental too." He muttered, as he headed off. He decided he would follow the woman, as he knew everyone thought ba of her, but she seemed to be having a bad day.

Teagan nodded back in response, and watched him for a moment or two as he started to fix her drink. She thought she maybe recognised him, but she saw that many people that all the faces tended to merge into one, so she didn't think too much of it. "Thanks." She responded, as he came back with her drink. SHe reached her hand into her pocket, fishing out some change, and glanced over it in her hand, counting it. "Shit." SHe muttered, realising she didn't quite have enough. She chewed the inside of her lip for a moment, before working out what to say, "I, uh, don't have quite enough." She said awkwardly, wishing she'd read the menu beforehand.

Brooke puffed the last bit of her cigarette before putting it out on top of a metal trash can and tossed it in. Her phone started going off nonstop again. She picked it up and felt her face soften, clicking the green answer button. "Hey, babe," she cooed, "no, I was just grabbing a smoothie.. Which I ended up wearing it." She nodded a few times, and then her face contorted to anger. "Okay, that's not my damn problem. Maybe you should've not give people tabs? Hm?" A few moments of silence. "I'll come home when I fucking please." Brooke made a disgusted face before jamming her thumb onto the red button and ending the call. She slipped the phone into her back pocket and turned to see the guy from before right behind her. "Can I help you?" Annoyance dripping from her words.

_

Nix waved it off, "no problem." He looked over his shoulder to see where his manager was standing and pulled out his own wallet, grabbing a few bucks to put in the register. "On the house," he told her. "Take it as a reward for not making me want to puke." He made a look towards the overabundance amount of teenage girls that flooded the cafe. "They make this job more unbearable than it already is, honestly." Nix blamed Tumblr and Instagram, considering the reason why they ever came in here in the first place was because of the photos they'd take for the sites. If it wasn't for those, he'd probably actually enjoy it here.

Connor paused as he heard her phone go off, wondering if he should just leave incase he interrupted something. It was when he heard her initially calm conversation becoming angry that he stayed put, wanting to be sure she was ok; it seemed everyone in this town was giving her a hard time, and to him it didn't seem fair. When she turned to him and spoke he did his best not to frown at the tone she used, "Yeah, sorry, I just wanted to make sure you were ok?" He began, "It's just that the lay back there seemed to give you an unnecessarily hard time back there?" He noted, rather disgusted at the words the woman had used, especially in front of her son.

Teagan breathed a sigh of relief, "Really? Thank you so much!" She replied, smiling to him, shocked he had done such a nice thing to her and used his own money, despite not knowing her. As he made a remark about the girls she glanced over her shoulder and smirked, "Glad to be of service." She joked. "I can't even imagine though, I bet it's a total pain having the place full of them all the time." SHe noted, suddenly feeling rather conversational, as she imagined how often people came in to get social media posts with the 'hipster' style decor.

Brooke let her annoyed expression soften a bit, and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine," she breathed out, "this day has already gone to shit and it's not even two in the afternoon yet." She pulled out another cigarette and lit it, "it's whatever, though," she shrugged. "I'm not a popular one in this town," she gave him a grin. She looked him up and down, "so, who're you?" Brooke raised a brow as she inhaled for a moment and exhaled smoke out of her nose.

_

Nix shrugged, "it's no biggie." He knew who she was, just not her name, and figured she'd need a helping hand. He pulled out a rag and made himself look like he was cleaning the counters, "it is but it isn't?" He paused a moment to collect his thoughts. "It's alright until the high school either lets out or right before their classes start." He gave an unamused look at the students chatting away about the latest gossip involving "math geek Melissa and stoner boy Steve". Nix scoffed, "I know more about what's going on in that school than I should because of this job."
