I sat on my best friends bed, giggling at something she'd said as I pulled my lilac hair to one side, getting it out of my face. I was wearing a large white sweater with a galaxy colored alien printed on the front, and a pair of black cotton shorts. I kicked my feet, clothed in purple thigh high socks, absent-mindedly as I lay on my stomach, a journal on the bed in front of me.
"So, did you see anyone intriguing on the trip to university?" I asked her. We were both seniors [18 y/o] in high school, already scrambling to find the perfect college for the inevitable end of our high school experience. So far, it hadn't been a bad experience, we'd had fun, but we weren't exactly popular, skipping out on the keggers in favor of a hang session with a case of whatever we could get our hands on down under the bridge at the park.
"Well, there was one guy," she said with a sly grin, a grin that said she was up to no good. She twirled her long brown hair around her finger and cocked an eyebrow with a slight chuckle. "Suit, tie, briefcase, lesson plans. He was pretty sexy." I gawked at her and playfully punched her on the arm.
"You're joking, right? A teacher? Again." I said with a laugh. My best friend was great, but she had a type, and her type was usually someone who could end up behind bars should anyone ever figure out about their relationship.
"Don't be so quick to judge, Troian." she said with an evil look. "Do we need to revisit the guy you've been pining after for years?" Karsyn asked, motioning to the open door behind me. I craned my neck to look over my shoulder, and there he was. He was handsome, tall, had a smile that could melt my entire world.. and he was Karsyn's brother.
"That's not fair." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "He's.. him, and yeah my heart skips a beat every time I think about him, but I wouldn't want things to be awkward." I said, scribbling something in my journal. "and neither should you, he's your brother. Doesn't that like.. break girl code or something?"
Karsyn shook her head and gave me a knowing look. "Honey, we are beyond girl code, I see the way you stare at him whenever you're here. I mean yeah, break my heart that you sit here with me longing after him," she joked playfully, "but I say go for it, who knows... he might surprise you."
I looked back at him once more and frowned slightly, "Maybe, but I doubt he thinks about me that way. I'm just his kid sister's friend, and I've been that for eight years, how do you shake something like that?" I asked, rhetorically.
