So, I've been on this site off and on (mostly off) with the intention of mainly roleplaying. Seeing as the roleplaying section of this site is pretty close to dead, creating a roleplay or even joining a roleplay that is solid (and by solid I mean with people that regularly make an effort to reply and with a plot that is fairly detailed) is damn near impossible. I've decided to give it one last shot, though. I'm planning on creating a roleplay that will hopefully last. While I don't have a solid plot yet (at least not written out), I think as soon as the group has been selected and assembled we could all start plotting together.
So, I have a few demands that I think should be filled by anyone who wants to join. I'm aware that there aren't a lot of roleplayers out there, that is why I'll be quite lenient.
- You must be literate. By this, I don't mean you can't make a few mistakes here and there. I'm not a native English speaker and I can make quite a few mistakes myself. The most important thing is not spelling nor is it grammar, it is your creativity as a writer. I hate seeing generic responses, using the same lines over and over because you don't know what to write. As for length, I expect multi-paragraph answers. If a roleplay is going in circles or if you for some reason can't come up with a good response, I suggest you say something instead of replying with a dry one-liner that no one wants to read. I should also mention that I really recommend downloading Grammarly for anyone who is unsure of their English skills or tends to make quite a lot of mistakes, it's a great service that corrects your texts as you write them, things you might not otherwise be able to catch. I'm currently using it as a chrome extension and it has really helped me.
- You must contribute to the story. I consider myself a fairly creative individual, that is why I choose to express myself through writing. I think most roleplayers do as well, but ever so often I stumble upon these roleplayers that seem to have forgotten that the point of roleplaying is to interact with other writers. If I wanted a character that literally does nothing in my story, while I myself have to come up with every single detail of a story that I myself have come up with, then I'd do it by myself. I'm roleplaying because I enjoy writing with others. This means I want someone to come up with ideas, someone who can take charge if needed, someone who can and wants to create a well thought out story with complex characters. Interact with me!
- You must be active. This is really important for obvious reasons. I'm not on here a lot, but if this actually works and I manage to assemble a roleplay group, I need all members to be active. I mean daily responses. I do understand that we all have lives outside of this site, and if you have a lot going on at some point, I expect you to inform the rest of the group and also find a creative way to write yourself out of the plot momentarily until you are able to continue. If you can't come up with a way, I'm sure I'll be able to help, but you have to inform me, otherwise I'll just assume you don't want to be in the RP anymore.
I want this to become a solid roleplay. A roleplay that we can all be excited about, both as writers and readers. That is why I have these demands. And that is why I won't just accept everyone into the group. I'm sorry if I offend someone, I truly am. If you feel as though I've treated your application unfairly I suggest you send me a private message. I'm big on second chances.
The application should be either written in this topic or sent to me as a private message. Things that the application should include but should not be limited to:
- Your RP history
- Your preferences (genres, characters, lengths, etc).
- A sample of a response you have written. This does not have to be a multi-paragraph response, not even a newly written one, it can be an old one you're proud of. The important thing is that I can get a sense of what your writing is like.
- Anything else that might be of interest.
I have pretty low hopes of this actually working out but I'm going to try it one last time. If you found this post intimidating, or if you're doubting on whether you want to send in an application or not, I urge you to give it a shot.
If I've forgotten something I'll add it later, but that will be it for now.
