Shadow Hunter Diaries
CHAPTER ONE
Discovery
It was the last day of school, June 27t.h. I had just finished my last exam, math. Gross. Math isn’t exactly my best subject. In fact it’s my worst subject. I had made sure I took time off work to study for it long and hard. Just so I didn’t fail. Thankfully since I’m in grade eleven it’s my last year I have to take math. I was opening my locker when a familiar round face with blonde curls came up and grabbed my arm. It was Mikayla. I called her Mika though. She had the biggest smile on her face.
“Guess what, May!” Mika exclaimed, her deep blue eyes glistened in the light with excitement.
“What?” I asked.
“No , seriously, just guess!” Mika laughed.
“You’re pregnant!” I joked. Mika wasn’t exactly a good girl. She never took jokes to heart which I liked.
“Hell, no. Danny asked me out though!” she had this smirk on her face that I couldn’t tell if she was serious or not. Danny was a huge player and just happened to be the captain of the football team and was a major Douche Bag. Mikayla and I have always despised him so I knew there must me a catch to this.
“What did you say?!” I exclaimed in horror.
“I told him off and said no in front of half the school. I made such a big scene about it too. It was hilarious!” she smirked happily.
“Oh My God! I wish I was there! When did this happen!?”
“It happened right after exams. He was waiting outside my class. Everybody was in the hall and everybody had just finished their exam. So everybody saw. I mean everybody!”
“Serve’s him right for being such a player!” I smirked.
“yea,’ Mikayla laughed, remember when we were in grade 8 and he threw water balloons from the school roof and you went up there and beat the crap out of him and you were suspended for a week?“
“Yes! I do remember that. It was so worth the suspension and grounding!” I laughed as we walked out the front doors to my car. I unlocked the doors to my convertible. It was a nice dark black BMW convertible. I got it for getting my G2. I reversed and pulled out of the school parking lot. I was one of the first students to beat the rush to get home and I was out in no time.
“We should drink tonight.“ Mikayla said out of nowhere as we got on the highway.
“I don’t think that’s such a good idea, Mika.”
“Why not?”
“Me and alcohol? You were there last time. You should know.” Last time I got drunk I had drank too much and thankfully Mikayla’s parents and come home and saw me passed out and called an ambulance or else I’d be dead right now.
“Oh, yea. I forgot.”
“you know…” I started when I saw a large black thing crawl onto the highway right in front of my path. I yanked the steering wheel to avoid hitting it and all I heard was Mikayla screaming as I blacked out as the impact of something hit my side of the car.

“Come on, breathe. Breathe. Just breathe. Oh god come on, Maylane. BREATHE!” a voice exclaimed but nobody ever called me by my real name and the voice wasn’t a familiar voice. I was coming into consciousness. I could feel the cold, wet grass on my back and the pain in my right arm was brutally painful. I opened my eyes to see the face of a boy. The boy had brown hair and violet eyes the colour of mine. I had never seen anybody with the same colour eyes as me. I just stared up at his face as he drew away from me. He sighed a breath of relief.
“Where am I? “ I said weakly.
“You’re about 2 miles from where you went off the road and crashed. Your friend is fine. I called an ambulance for her but the ambulance wouldn’t have been able to help you,” He whispered as if somebody would hear him and then continued, “What did you see that made you crash?”
“It was some large kind of black creature with teet…” I blacked out. I could feel the guy pick me up and carry me a long distance.

As I opened my eyes I quickly closed them again. There was a bright light shining in my face. I heard a chuckle and somebody moved the light. I opened my eyes again and saw I was in a small dark green room. I sat up quickly, only to receive a pounding my pain in my head.
“You probably should move so fast, Maylane,” the voice from earlier said ask he got up and came over to me and helped me up, “I’m Jordan. Jordan Bancorello. You were attacked by that creature you saw. The creature was a demon. I’m guessing you aren’t quite familiar with the term Shadow Hunter. Are you?”
“What are you talking about?” I asked as I held my head.
“You’re a shadow hunter, Maylane. I’m sure nobody has ever told you this or you would have been able to defend yourself.”
“Three things, Jordan,” I glared at him, “One, My name is May. Two, how do you know my name? Three, Are you fucking crazy!”
“Okay, May. Don’t use that language with me and you are a shadow hunter. So embrace it. It’s a gift.”
“You’re crazy, dude!” I jumped up and ran down the hall and decided to turn right and then I saw the door and ran towards it before Jordan grabbed me by the wrist and whipped me back.
“You don’t want to go out that way. If you go out that way you’ll be attacked by demons.”
“You can’t just keep me here. You kidnapped me!” I screamed.
“I saved your God Damn life, Maylane!” He yelled at me in a stern tone.
“How did I get here then if it’s crawling with these so called demons outside?” I asked.
“We took a portal. You see I’m a shadow hunter. Neither of your parents know about demons or shadow hunters or any other mystical creatures and they never can. Nobody can know. That is the one major rule. If you break it you face the death penalty or a life sentence in the shadow hunter prison. Do you get?” Jordan explained.
“How do I know you’re not just lying?”
“Tell me something to do that no human could possibly do.”
“Take me back to wherever Mika is through a portal.” I demanded.
“Okay but you must meet me at the place called you mundane call Maple Park tomorrow at 7pm. Got it?” I nodded.
“Thank you.” I watched as he recited some words in a language I’ve never heard before and a portal appeared in front of me, “How does it work?”
“Take my hand. Basically you have to imagine where you want to go but since you don’t know where your friend is don’t think of anywhere to go. Oh and don’t let go of my hand no matter what.”
“I think I believe you now Jordan.” I said as I took his hand and stepped after him into the portal. When I stepped into the portal it was like being whisked around like a puppet. Before I knew it I was outside the Welland Hospital. I looked at Jordan and asked, “Is she okay?”
“She’ll be okay.”
“Thank you,” I said and gave him a hug and ran into the hospital. I looked at the nurse and her jaw dropped. I never even considered how bad I may have looked. “I need to see Mikayla Brano. What room is she in?”
“Mam, I think you need a doctor to take a look at you first.” I felt a wave of something unfamiliar come over me and I glared into her eyes and she seemed to be in a trance.
“What room is Mikayla Brano in? Tell me now!” I demanded.
“Room 592. Floor four.” She said in a trance like voice.
“Thank you mam,” I said as I ran to the elevator and waited. Once the elevator opened I got in and pressed the big number 4. Once I got to level four I ran down the hall to room 592. When I saw Mikayla I started crying. She had a cast on her right arm and a black eyes and a swollen lip, “Mika… I’m so sorry.”
“May? She blinked at me. Is that you?” she squinted as I nodded, “You look worse than me. Go take a look in the mirror.”
“You’re okay…” I asked and ran up to her and hugged her. The feel of her arm around me made me smile. I was so happy she was okay.
“Now seriously go look in the mirror and clean yourself up. I have some extra clothes too.” I walked into the washroom and saw there was blood all over my face and I had cuts all over my face, a bruised cheek, a bruised neck, and a black eye, and to top it off a gash on my other cheek. I took a cloth and softly cleaned the blood off my face. It killed doing it but it had to be done. I couldn’t go walking around the hospital looking like a dead person. Once I finished cleaning my face and looked at my clothes and sighed. My new pair of jeans was ruined and my dress shirt was tattered. I walked out and took the clothes Mikayla had gotten out for me and headed into the washroom and changed into the black tank and black skinny jeans and walked over to Mika and sat down on the edge of the bed. The best thing about mine and Mikayla’s friendship was we were the exact same size in jeans and shirts.
“Mika… I’m so sorry about the accident.”
“I’ll forgive you when you tell what the hell happened.”
“I…I…I thought I saw something.”
“Saw what?”
“I don’t know, a deer or something, probably. Let’s just forget about it.”
“So you nearly got us both killed because you thought you saw something?”
“Yeah, pretty much.” I frowned.
“I forgive you, May”
“Thank God. I thought we were going to get into a huge fight over it or something”
“You’re overreacting.”
