Valerie rubbed her eyes as sun burst through her open curtains. She sat up and stretched, yawning. She pushed herself out of bed and made a bigger mess of her blankets. She brushed her hair and pulled on a red sweater and skinny jeans, before walking into the kitchen and pouring some cereal for herself.

Chen rolled over in bed and lazily hit the snooze button on his loudly beeping alarm clock. He smushed his face into the pillow and fell back asleep, ignoring the bright sun pouring into his room.
