Keira sighed heavily as she looked up and down the aisle at the drug store. She didn't know the first thing about what to look for when buying a pregnancy test. She grabbed a few boxes from assorted brands and tossed them into her basket before swinging by the refrigerated aisle to grab some ice cream. She made her way to the front of the store and added a few candy bars to the mix of products that she would be purchasing. Her face burned red when she recognized the cashier, a boy from school that she used to pick on with her best friend Audrey, Mason's sister. She quickly handed him the cash to pay for her purchase and after everything was wrapped up, she ran out to her car with her bags like she was going to melt in the sunlight. She'd been an emotional roller coaster lately; her ups and downs were starting to get in the way of her everyday activities. She drove to her house and once she got home, she gave Mason a call. She left him a voicemail, telling him to come over as soon as he had a free minute. She hurried herself into the bathroom, glad to find herself home alone, and completed the pregnancy tests as if her life depended on it - which, in some cases, it did. She refused to look at the results until Mason came over, which she knew may take a while as he claimed he was going to meet with an adviser today to discuss his plans for college. She put away the snacks that she bought while she waited for Mason to return her call.
Seth ran one of his hands through his hair as he drove over to Mia's house. He shook his head, angry at how he had acted the day before when he had essentially broken her heart. He looked over on the passenger's seat at the chocolates and flowers that he had bought her, hoping that they would coax her into hearing him out. He made the short drive from where he had been across town at a job interview. He wanted to work for a hardware store to get some much-needed money before he went to college, and he was happy that they would offer him a position even when he was leaving so soon. He pulled into her driveway and parked his truck before climbing out and walking up to her front door. He was thankful that her car was the only other one in the driveway, which meant that her parents wouldn't be home to question why he was coming over without his sister at his side. He knocked on the door and then rang the doorbell, not wanting to seem impatient but wanting to show that it was somewhat urgent that someone open the door. He smiled when he heard footsteps approaching the door. He laughed a little when she peeked through the curtains to see who stood just a few feet in front of her, which he knew that she always did whenever someone came to the door. "Open up already," he told her with a laugh, "it's freaking hot out here." He wiped some of the sweat from his forehead as the sun shined down on him from up in the sky.
