Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be invisible?
Sitting here in the back of the class room as the sun goes to sleep after a long day. No one notices that you are there or even turns their head when you stand to walk out of the room. No one turns to greet you as you walk down the corridor, not a single "hello". Do you ever wonder why the sun frowns but the moon laughs as you walk in complete darkness.
I wonder that it is like to be visible.
The classroom's clock ticks by one second at a time as the class clown makes his due. A big star within the room, everyone's attention on him as he makes a stage. Friend's around him to make he feel wanted and loved, a partner to be by his side through the good and the bad. The teacher calls to him to settle down but he does not. Standing on the rounded desk within the room, he prepares himself for his speech grinning almost like a madman full of confidence in his act.
The room is his stage, and I am his invisible audience.
Today is a new day. I leave home early to get to class before everyone else like I usually do. No one notices when I walk into class nor do they speak to me when I'm there. The city is quiet at this time, nothing but the cats and the mice that scurry down the long winding alleyways. The cat Blair is out again for her morning fish from the local fisherman as the sun is still rising and waking up from it's slumber. However this isn't my normal morning. There is a boy on my normal route to school, the class's wonder boy. Yes he is friends with the clown as well but he is different to him.
I try to walk past him quickly and quietly so to not be noticed, but a hand reached out to grab my arm. I freeze from the contact and slowly turn my head back to the boy, as if in fright of what had happened and he did the unthinkable.
He smiled at me.
