Clementine could hear the monitor steadily beeping as she slowly gained consciousness. It had been weeks since the accident and everyone was slowly losing hope of her getting better. Until now, of course. Her eyes fluttered open and she almost immediately squinted them as she struggled to adjust to the bright hospital lights. She glanced over at the various monitors that she was hooked up to before turning her head and spotting someone sitting in a chair in the corner of the room, watching some show on the tiny television that was hooked up beside her. She quietly cleared her throat, trying to speak before noticing that a feeding tube had been placed down her throat. Clementine had no recollection as to why she was in the hospital, or who was sitting in the room with her. All she knew was that she was awake now and wanted this tube out of her throat. She leaned forward, pushing the nurse button on the side of the bed. To her shock, it made a huge beeping noise, which caught the attention of the man in the room. He came rushing to her side, grabbing onto her hand and wrapping his arms around her. She remained frozen in the bed, unable to talk and definitely too confused to hug him back. Doctors and nurses soon came into the room, pushing the man aside as they worked on her.
Devon leaned over, opening the blinds to let the bright morning light filter into the room. Every morning he visited his girlfriend, reading her a chapter of one of her favorite novels before he had to head into work for the day. He visited her on his lunch break, and then spent the night with her, telling her stupid stories about work and how his day went. The only thing was, she was in a coma, and had been for the past 3 weeks. Her family all agreed that after 30 days, they would give up and take her off of life support as it wasn't a good way to life, all hooked up to IV's and monitors. Devon disagreed with their opinions, but honestly there wasn't much of a say that he had. He wasn't her husband, he wasn't family. He went to turn the page of the book he was reading aloud before he heard a slight mumble. He raised an eyebrow, glancing over at her. He quickly stood up, dropping whatever he was reading and rushing out to the nurses station. "We need a doctor!!" he screamed. This was the first time her eyes had opened since the accident. She was back. Devon couldn't believe this was happening. He ran back into the room, grabbing onto her hand and giving her a kiss on the cheek. "I knew you would make it out of this" he whispered into her ear, a huge grin resting on his face.
