TL;DR in bold. It's a novel idea, but it's not a sound business decision in my opinion. It's probably gonna cost a lot: coding, server space/bandwidth, and the maintenance afterwards.
I've been on another doll dress-up site with a small community. The owners made a flash space where the dolls can move around and chat. It also had a mini game. After the initial investment, they couldn't afford(?) to update it with new stuff to keep it fresh. The game got stale, and the novelty wore off. Fewer and fewer people used the flash space. I think the site shut down within several months. (Granted, there were also other factors such as the owners implementing a new marketplace system as well, the user base growing older/ entering a busy adult life, and the general declining popularity of doll-forum sites.)
The dolls mentioned above are also stiff or static, just like VPs. They weren't made to be mobile in the long-run. (If you were wondering how the dolls moved in the parts I mentioned above, they *glided*. You can take a transparent image of your doll, and move it around in MS Paint. That is how they moved. I kid you not.) If VP tried to code the dolls walking, it'd be hard and it'd still look awkward because the doll is facing the front only.
Designers could design all the sides of outfits and skins or the DesignerTeam together. (If not all the outfits on VP just the future ones.)
