i think a big first step for making the site accessible to new players is to have all of the sets in the fashion shop be PD only, have a larger selection of 'staples' that will never cycle out, and to increase the rate of PD earning so that anybody with a brand new account can easily purchase a set per day if they play the site for a few hours

talking about recolours:
on neopets (truly the industry leader in squeezing money out of their audience) they introduced 'dyeworks' where they released recolours of already released (and rare/desirable) items, where to produce one you just need the original item + the buyable recolour item, and you would get the original item back + the recolour

on vp i think something similar would work well BUT i think it should be real money only and that the designers themselves choose which sets they want to offer recolours of. that way the designer can earn a commission on these re-releases. but i think that some of those recolours should also be put up for auction in cr, with a starting bid that is similar to the value of the original item. that way they are still attainable for those willing to pay directly for them, but would also eat up some cr especially for very popular but super low ig sets

a lot of designers reuse their items in different colours in new sets anyways so it wouldnt really work that well aswell we wouldnt be able to do older sets or items

tbh i dont really know why i keep logging in on vp, i ask myself the question "what do i even do on this site"
i like the dress up aspect, but personally that is not something you do all the time. the games are alright, the forums are nice but not pushed enough. fans are a completely abandoned concept, it's like what does vp even want to be?

i can only use gsm to compare, i feel like it is not very different from vp in terms of mechanics and what you can do, it just pushes them a bit more. way more clothing, bigger seasonal events like summer tour. on vp most if not all events are from our lovely volunteers which is amazing, but vp doesnt really help them.. they go under so easily.

nowadays, platforms push mobile a lot bcs that is essentially where most of the online community reside in. vp is not necessarily mobile friendly, so immediately turns away a decent chunk of potential users. idk what es/etc do to remain successful

as a dress up site why doesnt vp dive deeper into aesthetics and stuff
especially on tiktok the talk about y2k, grunge, gothic, office siren, and oof so many different styling 'genres' are the talk and it doesn't seem to end

literally gonna pull infinity nikki into this... but that game has clothing that fits into different categories (elegant/cute/uniform/ballroom/etc), players could be assigned to an aesthetic eg. siren and have a higher ranking if their fit contains items matching that assigned or picked aesthetic.
every month you could release x outfits, each fitting to one aesthetic but you can only pick one of them, and you could get them gsm VIP style or the battle pass we got going here, some items locked behind manager/diamond

just some random vomit since i do believe the core of vp is still the dress up and fashion, keep forgetting we're technically popstars but idk how to push that lol

Agreed
I do want to point out from what various people including myself have said that events have gotten a little better. I guess for the "drought" people talking about, I started like before that, most of my time was during that, and it's getting better now. Individuals are doing so much to try and make events and I want to appreciate them so much. But, as you said, it's just that. Individuals. It's like the site itself is just kinda... here? y'know?
Also, the mobile version, in my opinion, is horrific. I never go on a mobile device unless i absolutely have to because it is actually the worst mobile friendliness i have ever seen (tbf i do most stuff on my laptop>mobile so i haven't seen as much as others to compare probably). Like, if I didn't have a computer and could only play on a mobile device, i would probably just quit vp it's so bad (and i don't let things go easy). So even if no app, pls do something (easier said than done i know, no hate on anyone)

real we need a clear goal!! purpose!! mission!! it's difficult to create meaningful change without having a clear picture we're trying to achieve (and more active work from staff that isn't just background work)

Oh i would like to add one more thing to the ranting about vp things. Someone mentioned about how items don't move very fast. One roadblock to that is also how annoying selling is. Like, i'd put items in mp more but a.) if they don't sell they come back into my wd and then i have to re-sort everything i don't want AGAIN and b.) if you are bulk selling or using a selling side, not only do you have to make a bunch of selling tasks you then have to go click accept to all of them and that's a PAIN.

The extension might help with some of that a little but it's hard to get the motivation to spend hours and hours to organize my wd when it's so annoying. Even if it's not that bad, doing it hundreds of time and potentially then having to do it again........ when i could just not....

So maybe making mp a little less finicky and making bulk sell/accept a thing would help a little to incentivize moving items? I guess that's more for bulk vs rares but...

yeah after a couple weeks or a month i forget, it all just goes back to being dispersed throughout your wd so you have to sort it again if it's in your main account.... except sets, they stay in mp forever

Back in the day I feel like there also used to be free item codes several times a week.
now I think we’re lucky if we get one of those Sunday codes.
Which the Sunday codes used to be every Sunday and they used to have something ready for BOTH genders.

but having something on vp that gave decent items and you didn’t have to pay for it definitely made this place a lil more exciting.

I have no problem paying for items especially as a male, but if I’m paying for items I am expecting top tier quality like Dani, Sol, encrede, etc.
not necessarily those designers but that level of attention to detail you know what I mean.

and right now I feel like there’s almost nothing to keep male accounts here at all which is so sad.
I used to design so much so males didn’t have to be disappointed and it’s sad to see after I left they just let caring about the male account population go almost entirely. I see luckily occasionally males get a prize in contests but it’s usually just a female set made into male.

I miss when we could list items in MP and they would just stay there forever. Never had to re-list them. It was nice.
