I am active in forums who use that and it honestly had a bad impact on the discussion culture there because sarcastic 'funny' comments and people snapping got way more thumbs up than constructive posts, so it kinda conditioned people to be snappy for likes rather than helping/interacting with the person who originally posted.

Ah, yeah, I can see the issue. I guess it could also make peope less inclined to actually write something in the thread themselves, since you could just like posts you agree with and then move on.
