Teachers.
I'm having an argument with someone about the importance teachers pose on the functioning of society. Teachers are so not valued as much as they should be, in my opinion.
Do you agree? Also what do you think is the most important influence teachers impose on society?
Help me win this argument lol.

They basically give us the knowledge to function in society so theyre like the foundation

Without education, which teachers provide you, none of us would be qualified for work today if that criteria still stood in a world without teachers. Anyways, teachers and school do teach you more than facts. You're also taught discipline, dedication, ethics\morals, skills etc. What's taught in a classroom every day has importance for the future of our society since you basically are raising the future. You're also taught things like reading and math so you can learn other things later that will make you more of a contribution to society.

Some can also be pretty crucial for your personal life.

uhmm.. this statement is a bit flawed i'd say. it might be different in other countries but honestly in norway you don't get much knowledge about how to write a resume for example. i've seen a lot of people my age complain about the lack of basic societal skills taught in schools rather than here's pythagoras' whatever the fuck lmao have fun loser

I agree, this is especially the case for primary school teachers. Younger children are so impressionable, and spending 5 days a week with the same adult is going to shape and mould these children. They can also have such a lasting impression on children who don't have any other positive role models in their lives.

I think it counts for most schools, but maybe not so much like university\studies b\c I don't think you get as close to the teachers as you would in high school and below, but like any person you spend several hours with in a week will influence you and if they're an authority person you may either look up to them and at least like them or you won't. some just don't go together, but if you have a kind teacher I think most will like that person

idk
some teachers are good
having a good teacher is nice but i literally had the worst teacher in 4th-6th grade and it was partly  her that made me loose all interest in school

she was manipulative, she would act one way when it was just us kids in the classroom but as soon as another teacher walked in she would switch personality
she would often give us candy and stuff more than any other teachers to make us like her
and she would favourise so much she had her few favourite students that could do no wrong and would never get in trouble, sometimes she would even blame other students for what the good students had done
and then she  had her bad students that always got into shit for the smallest of things

once in 6th grade one of the students snapped at her and called her out in class he got so mad and he was spitting truth, the teacher got upset and asked the rest of us to raise our hand if we agreed with what he was saying and most of us did raise our hands after that she got more angry and threw the kid that started it all out of the room and then she asked us again if we agreed with him...
she said that we just raised our hands because we were scared of the student she threw out and made us say that we didn't agree with him
she quit the year after this  and then i heard from my grandmother that used to work at the same school that none of the teachers liked her either

but yeah i get that most teachers aren't like this but this had a huge impact on me and is partly the reason i started skipping school

Yes and no

Most of my teachers sucked and just taught us what the government told them to teach us
There are good teachers, who give you valuable information and support for your life, but those have become very rare

I feel as though people forget that teachers are very much governed by the curriculum. It is sad that some of you have had bad experiences! I would love to hear other opinions/experiences.
