Mad Hatter Day! (by
EventTeam )
A very happy un-birthday to you! Or..
Actual birthday?
From the original Lewis Carol version to Disney's two Alice in Wonderland movies, we've all come to adore the insane Mad Hatter. Although October 6th marks the day in which we celebrate the silly Hatter, the "In this Style 10/6" on his hat doesn't actually represent the sixth of October.
The 10/6 is suppose to stand for the price of an ordered hat in the UK; Ten Shillings and Sixpence.
So why October 6th? In 1988 some computer techs in Boulder, Colorado decided to celebrate a day of silliness that was inspired by Mad Hatter drawings that were drawn by John Tenniel. The result? The computer techs came up with better programs and results compared to what they had ever done. It was in 1988 that this day became an actual holiday and got it's first press coverage.
In honor of Mad Hatter Day, ET is holding a
