How to Handle Meeting New People Like a Pro
Hey guys, Georgia here and today I'm going to give you my advice on the best way to handle meeting new people when you start school, uni or even a new job. You can all thank my mum for this because she is the one that gives me this advice. Feel free to share your own tips in the comments :)
Step one = Baby steps
This is one of the best pieces of advice I was given last year. Nothing is going to happen overnight, and you need to make baby steps with people. I know when I first started college I was feeling really down by the end of the first week because it was nothing like I expected it to be, it wasn't as easy to make friends and it just generally wasn't very good. After a lot of crying and chatting to my mum, she told me I needed to make baby steps with people. If I put myself out there and made baby steps then hopefully it can lead to building friendships. And you know what? It worked. I only started off by doing simple things like saying good morning when someone came into the classroom or even made conversation about the work we were doing or even asking about their day. By doing this, I made myself seem approachable, and now I know I can talk to a big chunk of my class instead of just to one or two people.
Step two = Questions!
If you're ever stuck for what to say to someone ask them a question, people love to talk about themselves and by talking and asking them questions it can get a conversation going and make things easier and a lot less awkward between you and other people.
And finally,
Step three = Put yourself out there!
I know it's scary to put yourself out there but its a really good thing to do, especially if you see other people getting on, and you want to join in. If you join in the conversation, it makes people realise that you're approachable and that you're also interested in the same kind of things. Putting yourself out there could be a really good thing.

How to Properly Manage Your Time
Hey guys, it's Hailee here! I can't stress enough on how much time management will be critical when you enter post-secondary studies! You'll be getting a lot more of assignments, tests, and group projects, and sometimes they will be all due at the same time. I'm going to share a few of the tips that I used during my first few years of college, and will plan on using during my three years of university.
This first tip was constantly repeated when I first started college. The upper years, as well as the teacher, encouraged us all to buy planners. With the use of a planner, it would allow us to write down what was due, and when. We could pencil in meetings with other group members during projects and just to keep track of what was going on. Now for someone who had never used the provided planners in high school, this was going to be hard. I ran out and found the cutest planner I could find (I thought it helped since it was adorable, and it gave me joy each time I looked at it). Even if it may not seem important to you, it is so much easier to go into your planner and see when something is due or when you have a test; most teachers will give you an outlined schedule, but nothing is set in place.
Another very similar tip was that I had a large calendar in my room. Since I was a struggling student, I printed them out four months at a time and taped them all together, the same thing with this I wrote down when things were due. I also wrote down when I worked, when my bills were due, and when I got paid. I placed it near my bed; I found it a fun way to count down the semester and also gave me a quick look over of my day and important things I needed to do! Now, since I am more of a visual person, this helped me, and it was super fun to make! I used different pens and colour-coded everything, but if you want a smaller version of this, most planners include a monthly calendar before the entry of the month.
Most important guys, don't overload your schedule! I know we all want to work and make that money, but it is important that we set aside time for us, and to hang out with friends. I had an excellent friend in college, she worked a lot of hours, mainly working full time at the same time as going to school. She managed graduating, but she often asked for extensions and went into a burn-out stage. Even if it's taking a bubble bath, or curling up in a ball for a few minutes to read, please make sure that your health comes first!

So you need a hobby?
Hey everyone, Sarah here! As someone who struggles with a lot of stress in my life, the one thing I find that helps is to get a hobby. There are many different hobbies you can take up! Some can take minutes, so hours, depending on how much time you have. Here are some of my favourite hobbies.
Knitting: Knitting isn't just something old ladies do. It's a great stress reliever! For me, it keeps my hands busy while I watch a show or listen to music. I find it really relaxing, and honestly, nothing feels better than finishing something you've put a lot of work into. It's also a great way to pass time and challenge yourself. It took me a month to make a sock (not even a pair, just one) and it felt so good! Maybe if you're feeling adventurous, you can join a local knitting group and learn a few things from them. Although I have not mastered it yet, crocheting is another thing to consider trying.
Arts and crafts: I love things I can do with my hands, so arts and crafts is a lot of fun. It could be something simple like making a card, or complex like a big project. I'm currently working on a paper machete Rose Quartz sword, and it's a lot of work. I can't wait to see the end result. I've also done things like stuffed felt toys and even cross stitch, though neither really stuck with me for very long. You don't even have to be creative, just try and have fun!
Reading: This one is an obvious one. I love letting go of all of my problems and diving head first into a great book. It makes you forget your troubles of the real world. I like putting myself in the characters shoes.
Whether it's something to keep you busy for a few minutes, or a couple of hours, I'd definitely recommend trying out a new hobby. You might even find something you really enjoy doing!
Stress and Deadlines?
Hello everyone, Alexys here once again. So I have indeed been away on vacation, hence why you haven't seen me around all that much. But I am back now, and it's time we talk about serious business. Back-to-school season has begun, and we all know that this means projects, exams, essays and homework. And if you're anything like me, then stress and deadlines go hand in hand for us.Here are some tips that work for me.
Again, if you're anything like me, procrastination is something you're used to. You're constantly telling yourself "I'll start on this as soon as I'm home, even if I have 3 weeks time for it" and of course you don't do much, or anything at all. Next thing you know 3 weeks later, the night before the deadline you're still in beginning phase. Don't worry and fear not, you'll get it done! How do I do it? Well, I try to work a little in the beginning, or at least get a rough sketch. Rough sketches are important because that's what I find most difficult. How do I want it to look like or what do I want it to contain? After the rough sketch is done, it all becomes easier.
If it's an essay, leave the intro and the conclusions last! I cannot stress how important this is. You're going to stress about how to write the introduction to something which you haven't even written yet! It's impossible. So write the body first, then the intro and conclusion. You'll save yourself a lot of time, and your stress meter will be thankful.
Speaking of stress meters, Take a break! I usually have to have VP or Tumblr open. And I repeat, have to have them open. I won't spend all of my time on VP or Tumblr if I have to get things done, of course. But after writing for a while or doing most of my homework, or even learning for an exam, I need a break. And it calms me to know that I already have sites open. I'll take a break of 15 minutes or so just to check VP or reblog a couple of things on Tumblr before going back to work. I've noticed it helps me a lot not to stress about things anymore. Don't forget to get up every once in a while, stretch your body and grab yourself a glass of water. Always hydrate! Very important!!!
Music also helps me. Usually, people like to study with calm music in the background. I always put on my jams. Upbeat or not, things I know and sometimes even sing along or move to the beat. Why? It helps my body relax and it helps my mind relax. Those tiny breaks of dancing in your seat or singing along, help my brain relax and then I can get back to reading or writing calmly and peacefully.
Doodle! If you get really stressed, always have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil by your side and start doodling. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece. It can be random hearts and flowers if that's what makes you calm.
I do have more tips, but these are the general ones. But what is most important, do not panic! Everything has a solution, and if you panic, you'll get even more stressed out, you won't do anything in the moments when you're panicking, and you'll lose precious time. If you feel like you're about to panic, step away from your desk, sit in the middle of your room where there's nothing around you and walk a little while breathing calmly. Allow the oxygen to get to your brain and it'll help you calm down. When you're calm enough, go back to your desk, the solutions will pop right up.
