  • Judge Susan Illston ruled that Google must hand over warrantless demands for customer data made by the FBI.
  • Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas cruise ship caught fire early morning on May 27th. There were no reported injuries and all systems in the ship are still functioning properly. The reason has not been discovered as of Monday afternoon.

  • Two fraternal twins, Kathryn and Kimberly Tucker, 26 suffered a similar stroke less than a year apart. Kathryn suffered with pain on the right side of her head and slept for three days straight, and nine months later, the same thing happened to Kimberly on the left side. They do not share the same DNA and have no history of strokes in the family, leading doctors to be absolutely baffled.

  • New York City Mayor Bloomberg received two letters that contained traces of the toxic poison ricin. The letters were threatening Bloomberg for his adamant stance on pro-gun control. They were intercepted by officers who showed moderate signs of having encountered the poison. Federal officials are currently investigating the case.

Ali's Corner
So school is coming to an end for the summer, if not already. For some of us, including myself, we'll be embarking on a whole new journey: going away to college. Its something I've looked forward to (minus the SATs, applications, essays, etc!) since my early years in high school. College is the time to be independent, do things you normally wouldn't do, and explore places you wouldn't normally go! I have a few of my personal tips for those attending college (or university for you Brits!) in the fall, or just for your future knowledge!

- If you are going to a college/uni not far from home and will be commuting, consider doing Study Abroad for a semester. This way you can experience living away if you wanted to do that, meet international new friends, as well as visit a country or state that you really want to but never had the chance. Some colleges offer grants, stipends, scholarships, etc for Study Abroad so look into that if it interests you.

- College is different from high school. No one will baby you, no one will reprimand you for being late, or if you didn't do your homework. Remember that you are paying for it, and the bottom line is unfortunately most (but not all!) professors are there to be able to support their family. No one will be there to push you to do anything, you have to learn to do it yourself.

- If you are dorming, consider getting a single if your college offers it to freshmen. This way when you want to part and hang out, you can still do so  but when you need a safe haven to study, you have your own room.
