Urban Legends: Second Edition (by Hailee )

Hey everyone! Today I'm doing something that some of you may have seen from the News Team before. A few months ago, I did a first batch of urban legends and you guys really liked it. So this week I'm going to be sharing a few more urban legends with you, and I can guarantee that most of these you were told as a child. Or they made an appearance at a sleepover!

Let me know if you've heard of these, or even if you have your own you would like to share!!
The Clown Statue - A couple are trying out a new babysitter for the night while they go out to some party. When they realize that they've forgotten to leave their numbers, they call the house and ask the sitter to write it down. Before hanging up, the sitter asks if she could watch a television program in their room as there is no satellite in the living room. The couple agrees, and tell her to have a nice night. Before they have a chance to hang up, they sitter asks if she can cover up the clown statue in their room as it creeps her out. The parents state that there is no clown statue in their room, and urge her and the kids to get out. Once the sitter and the girl are safe, the police are called and they 'apprehend' the statue who is a jail escapee who was dressed as a clown.

There are many variations to this tale, where the clown is a midget who has schizophrenia and has been hiding out in the house for weeks. To other versions where the kids have even seen the 'clown' prior to that night. Is this story true? So far, there have been no news reports of something of this sorts happening. In Spring of 2004, the story started to circulate around, including versions of the story where the children are the initial targets and not the one who is looking over them.

In the past few years, the presence of killer clowns has been notable in the media, but when it comes down to this urban legend. It is just a twisted take on the whole 'man upstairs' urban legend. Another form of the legend going around was it was used in a chain message where is you didn't send it to a certain amount of friends you would see the clown in your room that night.
The Killer In The Window - A 15-year-old girl was left alone with her little sister while her parents went out for the evening. After putting her sister to bed, the girl decided to watch one of her tv shows down in the living room. After the show was over, she turned the tv off and looked out the back window. From afar, she saw the outline of a man getting closer. As he got closer, she could see that he was holding a knife. As she started to panic, she hid under a blanket and called the police and stayed on the line with them until they got there. Once the police got there, they decide to check outside for footprints as it had been snowing. It was only when they came back inside, that they noticed wet footprints that were coming from the front door to where the little girl had been sitting. They told the little girl she was lucky the man wasn't outside, she had been seeing the reflection of him walking towards her.

In another version of this tale, the young girl sits with the blanket over her head for around 10 minutes. Which, in my mind doesn't make sense as the intruder should feel no danger as she isn't on the phone alerting the authorities yet.

This is one that has always scared me because it plays on the entire "things aren't always what they seem". This is another take and variation of the entire babysitter and the man upstairs. In those cases, we know, the children are in danger. Whereas in this case, the babysitters life is in danger as she tries to protect herself and not the children. She has let her guard down, and is finally trying to relax, but we soon find out that is not possible.

In
The Spider Bite - A young woman goes on an overseas vacation, while out on the beach she falls asleep while tanning. After she wakes up, she notices that her cheek is a little sore but shrugs it off as her getting too much sun. As the vacation continues, the pain doesn't leave, but she decides to go home. Over the next few days, the side of her face started to swell up and form a boil. Alarmed, she went to a doctor. The doctor had never seen anything like this, and he decided to break open the boil. Once it was broken hundreds of tiny spiders started to crawl out, the woman went into shock. She died on the spot after a heart attack.

There are many variations on the spider bite urban legend, each one of them terrify me more than the other. In one case, the mother puts it off until the last moment and the boil bursts while her daughter in taking a bath.

Just reading this gives me shivers, the thought of little bugs living inside of me gives me nightmares. Although, it has been proven that this is most likely impossible for it to happen the thought still scares me. Insects revolve around a few urban legends, another one is that a young boy falls asleep with cookies in bed and ants have taken the cavity where his brain lays.

For some reason, these kinds of urban legends never really bothered me... because the scenarios are preventable or have some sort of ending. But longer stories, or something that doesn't have a resolution of any sort at the end, and there's nothing the person did to incur the creepy situation/person/curse? Those have kept me up at night.

I've heard of the first two and always hated them. I'm too much of a wimp. I especially hated the first one as I heard it in a chain mail on stardoll when I was like 7. I couldn't sleep AT ALL that night

Chain mails are THE WORST. Like I hated getting them and my dumb self really thought I was going to die or have the person show up xD
