Summer inspired DIYs (by Private)

Crystal and rocks is a really cool thing that Mother Earth created however, with this DIY you can make your own crystal and rocks and they are even edible!

All you need is:
❥ 2-3 cups/4,5-6.75 dl sugar
❥ 1 cup/2,25 dl of water
❥ Skewers
❥ A jar or glass
❥ A large saucepan
❥ Clothespins
Optional:
❥ Food colouring
❥ Candy flavoring

How to make it:
❥ Combine equal amount of sugar and water in the saucepan and heat it until the sugar has dissolved.
❥ Slowly add more sugar and mix it. Add more sugar until the sugar won’t dissolve anymore. The water looks a bit cloudy when the sugar doesn’t dissolve anymore. Add candy flavoring if you desire and then heat the mix of water and sugar until it comes to a simmer.
❥ Remove the sugar and water mix from the heat and let it cool.
❥ Cut the skewers so it fits the jar or glass.
❥ Dip the tips of the skewers in water and then roll it in sugar.
❥ Let the skewers dry for a bit.
❥ Once the sugar-water solution is cool pour it into the jars/glass and add the food colouring if you want.
❥ Put the dry skewers into the jar and use a clothespin to make sure the skewers doesn’t touch the bottom of the glass/jar.
❥ After a week the crystal candy are ready to be served!
Since summer is finally here and a lot of people will soon be off school and some even be off work for a couple of weeks, I have prepared a list of different DIYs you can try to make if you ever feel bored on a rainy summer day!
Watermelon is often seen as a typical “summer fruit” so why not make a soap that looks like a watermelon? I think it sounds like a perfect idea!

All you need is:
❥ 500-gram shea butter soap base, coconut soap base or goat’s milk soap base (apparently that’s a thing).
❥ 1,5 kg clear soap base.
❥ Silicone loaf soap mold.
❥ Measuring tools.
❥ Green and red soap colouring.
❥ Watermelon fragrance oil.
❥ Poppy seeds.

How to make it:
❥ Melt the 227 gram of the soap base.
❥ Add 10 drops of fragrance oil.
❥ Add green colouring until you have achieved the colour you want.
❥ Pour ¾ of the green soap mixture into the bottom of the mold.
❥ Allow to firm for 15-20 minutes.
❥ Use the remaining dark green mix and add 113 gram of the soap base.
❥ Melt it.
❥ Pour the mix into the mold.
❥ Allow to firm for 15-20 minutes.
❥ Melt 113 gram of soap base and add 5-10 drops of fragrance oil.
❥ Pour into the mold and let it firm for 15-20 minutes.
❥ Cut 1360 gram of the clear soap base and melt it.
❥ Add 15-25 drops of fragrance oil and 1 tbsp of poppy seeds.
❥ Pour into the mold and sprinkle more poppy seeds on top.
❥ Allow it to firm for 90 minutes.
❥ Cut your soap bar into how you want it.
❥ Wash your hands and enjoy!
Plants and flowers is something that screams SUMMER so why not decorate your plain boring flower pots with some nice marbling?

All you need is:
❥ Nail polish - multiple different colours!
❥ Large container - the flower pots need to fit inside it.
❥ Room temperature water.
❥ A skewer or a toothpick.
❥ White plastic pots.
❥ Clear matte finishing spray.
❥ Rope.
❥ Drill.
❥ 3’ gold embroidery ring to tie the rope to.

How to make it:
❥ Fill the container with the water.
❥ Gently pour down the nail polish into the water.
❥ Use a stick to create your design in the polish. You need to be quick so the polish doesn’t harden!
❥ Submerge the flower pot in the water and pull it out. You can repeat this process until you are happy.
❥ Let it dry for 30 minutes.
❥ Once dry spray with the finishing spray.
❥ Now drill some holes in the bottom of the pot and 4 holes at the top of the pot with equal distance apart.
❥ Cut 2 pieces of the rope to the same length. Fold the ropes in half and loop them through the gold ring.
❥ String each end of the rope into the holes and secure with a double knot.
❥ Now go plant some plants in your new fancy pot!
Snow globes is probably something that doesn’t come to your mind when you think of summer but let’s change that with a summer snow globe!

All you need is:
❥ A mason jar
❥ Some summer related plastic figures, eg. flamingos, palm trees, people in swimsuits etc…
❥ Glitter.
❥ Glycerin.
❥ Hot glue gun.

How to make it:
❥ Remove the lid of your jar and glue the figures down onto the inside of the lid.
❥ Fill your jar almost to the top with water and then add a pinch of glitter and a couple drops of glycerin to get the glitter to float.
❥ Screw the lid back onto the jar and shake it!
