For this month’s designer appreciation I got the chance to ask the lovely nondesigner Delcinne a few questions about her and her design process. I hope you enjoy the interview!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Delcinne and I’m an university student from Finland. I have been drawing since I was little and I love to express my creativity and imagination through it and always liked to explore new ways to add uniqueness to my art. Besides designing I like to listen to music and play games, sometimes I spend time building houses in sims. I must admit that I’m a nail polish hoarder, I have been hoarding nail polishes for half of my life (is 300 bottles too many?!). I also like collecting gemstones. Nowadays I try to practice drawing digitally and have basically abandoned traditional drawing completely, even though I like it more than digital.
That's a lot of nail polish! What is your go-to nail colour? Do you usually just paint your nails with a solid colour, or do you experiment with nail art or patterns as well?
I actually like more ”special” nail polishes and never wear solid colors alone. That’s why I make them look less boring by adding for example holographic or other iridescent nail polish or powder over it. Sometimes I would decorate my nails with rhinestones or make like little paintings on my nails with acrylic paints, it was fun but time consuming. I haven’t been painting with acrylics for a while because they dried up.
Why/How did you start designing for VP?
I really liked to join designing competitions but never thought I could have my own items in game. I somehow got motivated and started practicing more. It was a great moment to finally have my first set in game, and I still feel the same way as before – it makes me very happy to see other players wearing something I have created. My previous designing attempt happened during gsm times and I wasn’t that familiar with digital art before last year.
How long have you been designing for vp?
I started designing in 2019.
What program do you use for designing? And do you use a mouse or a drawing tablet?
Currently I’m using an iPad pro + apple pencil and an app called procreate. I started designing with an old iPad without pencil support so I just designed with my finger haha.
How long do you approximately spend on designing one set?
Designing a set takes somewhere between 5-10 hours, depending on the amount of items and details.
How long do you spend on designing on a weekly/monthly basis?
If I have time, I can make couple designs in a week but rarely do more than two in a month. There are times when I don’t design for almost a month.
Do you wish to become a badged designer in the future?
It was definitely a dream of mine but I’m not really sure if I would have enough time for it now.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Usually I get the inspiration from online clothing stores and Pinterest. Sometimes I just get random ideas.
Do you have a set that means something special to you or that had a special story behind it when you created it? Can you tell us why / what that story is?
I think it is my first set in game. It was for Pokémon gijinka competition, I designed Braixen. I remember working hard on it and was proud how it looked, which made me motivated to continue getting even better at designing.
