The second month of the year is already over. However, at one point it was hard to tell if it was February 2022 or 2019 due to the time travel happening this month. While there were a lot of mixed feelings about getting the old layout back, and no-one was happy about losing the new wardrobe functions such as gold and pink colour categories, favourite sets and the option to sort based on sets, everyone was happy to be able to use the wild emojis of the past. As the site is back to normal the emojis are sadly gone again now, so let this magazine be in remembrance of them.
We also want to remind everyone that you can still apply to the NewsTeam via our open applications. We are looking for both more layouters and writers, so if you are interested in graphic design or writing don’t hesitate to apply! You can find the application form here.
February has been eventful, to say the least. On top of the big news that the EN server now has two new admins, and that Kaj is no longer the owner of the site, the developers met some bumps on the road which severely affected the site. It all started with the little throwback to an older version of the site, around the 11th of February. Though not the ideal situation, we embraced it and had a lot of fun with ‘old vp’ inspired looks and the retired emoticons.
In the days that followed after the site had been restored to its current version, a new issue was discovered. Anyone who tried to change out of their throwback looks found that their new looks completely glitched out, and as the situation developed more and more people who had not hit ‘save’ lost their looks as well. In addition, full set images were completely gone, and a good amount of single items disappeared. Once the glitching outfits were solved, and some set and item images returned, a few of the stubborn glitched items stayed as they were. Of course, vp being vp we had to take advantage of this glitch, and by putting on the required items (top+bottom / dress & skin) as glitched items, many experimented with new, creative looks.
Unfortunately, not all of the server issues have been as fun or involved dressing the part, as for a good few days, no one could change their looks at all, given the fact that the site went down. Downtime happened twice, the first time stretching over multiple days, where the second downtime only lasted a few hours. In response to the events of the month, the developers discovered two major issues with the site; the RAM memory was full and the site was in addition in need of a firmware and harddrive upgrade. All of this was done between the 25th and 27th, and as of right now, all that remains a major issue is the few glitched set and item images, which will be fixed in the near future, according to the admins.
On January 31st the Mega Credit Week of February began, this time we got some beautiful sets by Ouch, Marissa, Evie, Talent and Solovey for the female users and by Marissa and Talent for the male users. The last day to get the sets were on February 6th. You can find all the sets in this forum.
We also had the usual auction weekend on 5-6th February, this time there, unfortunately, were no male sets. The popdollar set was made by Talent and Bones, both from the EN server, while the credits set was made by Autumn, the NL server. You can find the sets in this forum.
This month we also got a new manager set, this new manager set was made by Evie from the NL server. To get the entire set you need to get yourself 6 months of manager, which cost 900 credits. Are you going to get the new manager set?
February saw a total of three competitions, two held by the Social Media Team and one by the Event Team. The first competition of the month was the classic “Who wore it best”-dress up competition hosted by SMT, this time requiring users to make an outfit with some angelic wings. Lots of creative entries were made, and as usual, were inspired by a variety of different styles. To see all the creative entries, click here. The 31 winners, who were announced on Twitter, received a stunning set designed by Uhyre (for both females and males).
The second competition of the month was also hosted by SMT. Titled “A date in outer space”, users joining this competition had to make two outfits fitting the theme, which could be interpreted in myriad ways. While some chose to make looks inspired by other-wordly creatures, others made aliens or were inspired by the cosmos in its entirety. If you want check out the amazing entries, click here. The winners, who are yet to be announced, can look forward to seeing a new gorgeous set, once again designed by Uhyre (for both females and males), being added to their wardrobes soon.
The site downtime and glitches this month has drastically decreased the amount of events. However, SMT did host a Valentine’s event. Inspired by the erotes - greek gods of love - they hosted a code hunt that went across both VP and all the media pages. There were three paths to follow, each one connected to a specific media page and one of the erotes. The Twitter path was Eros, the Tumblr Anteros and the Instagram one Himeros. The paths were designed with riddles to lead participants onwards.
All the rewards were designed by the talented Talent, and were similar for male and female avatars. The rewards can be seen below:
