News Around The World (by Private)

There have recently been a lot of bad news all over the world. Every media keeps bringing heart breaking stories. Today, The News Team Gazette brings you the opposite: in this issue, we focus only on positive news.

Space: Images from far far away

NASA has just published images from it's James Webb space telescope. Due to the technology of the telescope, we are now able to see entirely new cosmic features. The special thing about the James Webb telescope is that it can 'see' infrared, which the famous Hobble telescope can't. This is important, as infrared can catch the earliest light which is the light the farthest away. With infrared it is therefore possible to see a lot more.

Antarctica: Return of the whales

The fin whales appear to be making a comeback in Antarctica. Due to hunting, the whales almost went extinct. About 50 years ago, a ban on commercial hunting of the whales went into place  and it appears to have worked! Scientists recently spotted a large group of about 150 whales together and 100 smaller groups of one to four whales. Based on this, researchers believe there to possibly be about 8000 fin whales in Antarctica now! This is a huge improvement considering there were almost none left not so long ago.

Spain: Free Trains for everyone

How do you as a country deal with the rising costs of living? By making public transport free. From September and lasting the rest of 2022, Spain is making all commuter and medium-distance regional trains free of pay. However, it is only trains run by the government company, and not on all ticket types. But, it is still a step in the right direction, both for the private economy and the environment.

Everywhere: The end of plastic bottles?

The end of the plastic - and glass - bottle might be near. Multiple different alcohol companies have recently made bottles based on plant fibres and recycled material.

The beer company Carlsberg has launched a huge pilot test of their new plant-based beer bottles. Beside apparently keeping the taste and fizziness just as well as glass bottles, it also isolates better so the beer is kept cool longer. The fibre bottle is fully recyclable.

Meanwhile, wine company When In Rome make their bottles from recycled paper, and tequila producer Buen Vato makes their bottles from old cardboard.

These new alternatives are all much more climate friendly than the classic plastic, metal or glass bottles, so using these options can make the alcohol industry a lot more sustainable.
