Money Saving Tips 7/26 (by Madi )

Consumer goods, payments, necessities; these are just a few examples of things a typical person would spend their money on each month. In society today, it is often hard to keep money once you have it. Here are a few helpful tips that you can remember to help save up your money.

1. Keep track of your spending - Use records, such as the ones found on your credit cards, to review what you have purchased each month. Make a limit for yourself and try not to pass it.

2. Never purchase expensive items on impulse - Try to give yourself at least 24 hours to think about buying something pricey before making a final decision.. This way you can give it more thought, and not regret it afterwards.

3. Take advantage of coupons and discounts - Take some time to look through local coupon booklets and magazines. You might find some type of coupon or discount at a place that you shop at, which can help you save money to be used in the future.

4. Aim for short-term goals - In order to be more successful with saving up your money, make short term goals for yourself. Instead of saying to yourself that you need to save up $200 by the end of the year, try saving just $20 a week or a month.

5. Check to see if things you want/need are online - Sometimes items are cheaper online... especially if they are bought in bulk. Free shipping is typically offered in large orders. This can save both precious time and money!

6. Save loose change - Putting aside a few cents a day, or when ever you have leftover change, can definitely add up in the long run. It is surprising as to how much you would have in as little as a couple months! Loose change can be stored in simply a plastic bag to start out and moved to a bigger jug/bottle when you have more accumulated.

7. Use debit and credit cards frugally - Try to limit card purchases to ones you can fully pay off by the end of the month to keep down interest rates. The chances of accumulating overdue payments are slimmer, as well.

8. Item cost divided by hourly wage - Take the amount the item costs and divide it by your hourly wage. For example: If you want a $80 pair of jeans and you make $10 an hour, ask yourself, are these jeans really worth 8 hours of work? This method helps keeps things in perspective.

9. Find the lowest cost place - Often the same product does not have the same exact price in two given places. Look around before buying it because there might be a better buy somewhere else.

10. Stack receipts - Starting at the beginning of each month, collect the receipts for everything you purchase. Review the receipts at the end of each month to see where all your money is going to.

With these tips, you are surely to succeed in saving up your money!
