Debate: Should School Days Be Shorter? (by Forget )

Today we're going to have a debate that gives you a chance to comment and give your opinion! Our debate is on the length of school days. Most of us will have about 7 hour school days. In college, you may have 3 hours but we're going to be focusing on the school levels before that.

Yes!

School causes a lot of stress and kids don't get enough time for their work. Also, kids aren't getting enough time to be able to participate in all the sports or activities there are because school takes up so much of the day and everything would have to have be clumped in the little amount of time afterschool. Such long school days may make it hard to focus when all you can think about is that you want to get home. Many kids get bullied, sadly, and shorter school days would help to prevent bullying - less time to bully others.

No!

Everyone needs their education. Studies show that people who do not have an education have more of a chance of losing or not even getting jobs causing loss of money and eventually that can lead to homelessness. The school days contain the classes you need to take so you are literate. If we take some places in Africa as an example, look how people do not go to school. They have a poor economy and a poor lifestyle. These hours and classes are here for us to learn, not suffer, and later on you'll be thankful that you could actually get an education.

Based on what you've read with opinions coming for both sides, what do you say? Tell us in the comments - please use stuff from the article, not just your own opinion for pleasure (let's be honest, who wouldn't want a little bit of shorter school days?! but the length is giving what we need).

It's no that I don't care about education, it's just because most schools don't get a full Thanksgiving break, or Christmas break, like my school.

No, school hours per days should not be shorter or longer in my opinion. (7 hours is fair) I think that it makes sense to evenly distribute the amount of hours students go to school in a week. (7 hours a day for 5 days = 35 hours per week as opposed to 9 hours a day for 4 days = 36 hours)

Can I just say that you've messed up the carousel image three articles in a row now? Perhaps you could work on getting it right in one go <img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/lol.png' alt=':d'>

I haven't. Not in my TPC articles, not in ET articles. Last time mine was a perfectly sized Marina gif. This was the only time and it wouldn't let me resize it because the image was too big. And I didn't have time to try other sites. You wouldn't believe where I had to write this article, be glad I even made one. I took the carousel image off because it seems unappreciated but adding smiley faces to the end of your comments doesn't make me less disappointed.

Yes should have longer days at school. It should be from around 8-4 at least. Everyone is so whiny like "my school is 9-2" that's actually really short. I'm speaking from an american perspective and mine is 8-3:15 and I think its fairly short. This is why so many developed countries are at the bottom of the lists. The kids are reluctant to learn. I think if they improve the quality of school, like better teachers that put less pressure on them (like in some country I think Greenland or something it is one of the happiest countries in the world because they have a high acceptance of faliure so if you make a mistake you don't get a horrible G.P.A ect.) kids would be less reluctant to go to school, and we could do this easily.
