Reading a book is something we should all cherish. From letters we form words, and from words we form sentences. Having the ability to read and making the most of it will allow you to have a varied vocabulary, as well as improving your articulacy.
In my opinion, I feel reading brings me pleasure and definitely gets me going! Once I pick up a good book, I just can’t put it down. Being a huge fan of the Harry Potter Series, I have to mention J.K Rowling and how her creativity and adventurous ways of working with words mesmerises me. I remember picking up the Philosopher’s stone, and not putting it down. I had to know what came next, and what made Harry, The Boy Who Lived.
Books give us the chance to delve into a whole new world and experience a rollercoaster of emotions without having to physically go through it. They give us an insight of life, its mysteries, morals and the extraordinary aspects that we will least likely face. If we can’t meet a three headed dog named Fluffy in real life, why not go for the next best option?
I admire novelists such as Harper Lee, who wrote the famous “To Kill A Mockingbird”. I absolutely loved the novel. From start to finish, it was a compelling book that had elements of humour within the dark conformities of 1930s Maycomb, in America’s Deep South. The more I think about the book, the more intelligent Harper Lee begins to seem. Her ways of using a child’s innocence to view the backlash of the American society during a time where racial segregation was permitted, just left me in awe.
Khaled Hosseini’s novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” was like a smack of reality on my face. His ability to use a female narrative voice, Mariam, to express hardships in Afghanistan in the 1960s is both wonderful and awe inspiring. Throughout the novel, Hosseini made me cry endlessly. To emotionally hit someone and cause them to empathise with the protagonist and possibly the other background characters is the type of author I look for.
There are so many great books out there; however, not all books may be as appealing to you as they are to me. Different people prefer different genres and to be honest, there is no problem in that at all.
Comment below and tell me which book you’re reading now, and recommendations would be superb!
