Sleep: What's the Big Deal? (by Ariellenicolle )

Skipping a few hours of sleep every day isn’t that bad, right? Studies show that's not necessarily true. Though little sleepfor one night can cause negative behavior, think of how one week of little sleep can affect behavior.

A week of insufficient sleep can alter the healthiness of a person by making them prone to accidents, diseases and disorders, and death. In fact, a person will die by lack of sleep faster than by hunger. Eleven days is the record for a human remaining awake, and you could imagine they would not have been in great shape by that time.

The effects of sleep deprivation include an increased risk of accident occurrences, disease and/or disorder developments, and death occurrences. Sleep deprivation has multiple negative effects on human beings. It causes accidents at work places and on the road, development of diseases or disorders such as diabetes and mood disorders, and death by a weakened immune system.

In all, not receiving enough rest per night endangers the lives of individuals and the others around them. Receiving a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a day is necessary to keep your body and mind at its peek healthiness. Keep that in mind whilst scrolling through the internet until 2 am or pulling an all nighter to get that homework finished. Caffeine is not the answer.

That's not very good for your body, even if you sleep in on the weekends because it throws off your circadian rhythm of sleep (your body's internal sleep regulation cycle). Having a regular sleep schedule is the best for your body to properly function and maintain healthiness.
