What to do when sick? (by LoveIsALaserquest )

Hey all, Hailee here!

I know that most of us have been prepping for the summertime, and so have I! Also at the same time, I’ve been battling a wicked cold. Today I would like to share with you, some tips for when you are sick, as well as some of the at home remedies that work for me!

Also, thank you to Eli for making this wonderful layout !

Tip #1: Stay Hydrated!

I know that water isn’t always the most appealing, but it works! Drinking lots of fluids will help you stay hydrated, and also help the toxins flush out of your body! (Helpful hint: You can substitute this with a juice of your choice!)

Tip #2: Unplug from the world!

This one can be hard for some of us; I know growing up my mom had a rule for us when we were ‘sick.' We were to stay in bed with no electronics, it might be hard, but it lets you focus on yourself and getting better!

Tip #3: Sleep!

I know what most of you are thinking, ‘why wouldn’t I take this time to catch up on the latest season on Netflix?’, well there is only one simple answer to this! While sleeping, you are letting your body try to heal itself from that nasty cold you have! (Helpful hint: Can’t sleep? Turn off all of the lights, and rest your eyes!)

Tip #4: Make the day about yourself!

Don’t be afraid to call in sick for work, or skip going to school for the day! Why risk getting others around you sick? Take this time to pamper yourself with a hot bubble bath. Or why not even curl up and read a book?

Here are a few of the things that I do when I have a cold, keep in mind, this is what I find works for me! I can’t guarantee that these remedies will have the same effect on you!

Remedy #1: Gargle salt water!

The salt water will help loosen the gross mucus that is in the back of your throat! For this, I dissolve a teaspoon of salt in some water. I swish the water solution in my mouth for about 15-20 seconds, and then spit it out. I do this approximately a few times per day, but feel free to do it as many times as you’d like!

Remedy #2: Hot honey-lemon water!

This solution has been a blessing for me, as I am a big fan of a hot honey lemon tea! This drink my go-to for when I have a sore throat. For this, I boil up some water and mix in a spoonful of honey, and squeeze in a tiny bit of lemon juice and drink up! (Fun fact: Lemon will also give you a boost of vitamin C.)

Remedy #3: Humidity!

Whenever I’m sick, the humidifier is my best friend. I run this bad boy all night, and I’ve noticed that it makes breathing a lot easier at night while sleeping. If you guys don’t have a humidifier, don’t worry! You can achieve the same effect from a steam-filled shower. I love just sitting in the washroom while running the water very hot, and watching the room fill up with steam! (Helpful hint: Don’t forget to change your water each night, this way, you are preventing a mold build up!)

Remedy #4: Vapor rub!

I love the strong smell of vapor rub, and I like how much this can help with breathing as well. I usually apply some on my chest before going to sleep; I find that it makes such a difference and opens up the air passages up.

Well, here you have it! These are some of the few things I do while sick; I loved sharing my remedies with you. I would also love to know what you guys do when you’re sick, and maybe I will try a few of them out next time around!
