Narcissus |
Narcissus had since his teenage years been a captivating man, he knew this because wherever he went people would quickly fall in love with him, “how couldn’t they? He was the most beautiful being they had ever seen after all”. He himself had never seen his own image until one fateful day when he came upon a lake and once he saw his reflection he finally understood. He was magnificent, he had to be the most beautiful creature ever created by the gods, maybe even more magnificent than the gods themself, although the thought scared him. He finally understood why everyone had said how he “must have been blessed by the gods” but no, thought Narcissus to himself, this was not a blessing, this was a curse. For you seet he one thing Narcissus desired more than anything was love, and how could he ever find it looking like this? For even though many a men and woman had proclaimed their love for Narcissus during his life he had never ever felt come from their heart, no it came from lust, from admiration, from an inner need to possess this beautiful being. No one would ever be able to see past his looks, so therefore no one could ever truly love him. When this realisation dawned upon Narcissus he knew there was but one thing he could do, for he would not live a life without the love he so desired, and so Narcissus, the most beautiful man there ever was, took his own life, because beauty is not always a blessing, to some it is a curse. |
