 ReportWtf :/
Why are all of these sets named geisha when they dont resemble geisha at all?

<--"GeishaGenericMuch"
<--"beautygeisha"
"<--"winterygeisha"
<--"Geisha"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. First of all, for the generic one,

this literally has a (inaccurate) kimono, hairstyle and the flower ornaments of a maiko, an apprentice geisha.. who arent really considered geisha till they graduate to geisha status after a period of training

This is a maiko

These are the outfit differences between a maiko and a geisha

If this set is considered to be based off geisha according to its name, why does it have the red collar of a maiko?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
..Also? can we talk about why the hell does the set have the huadian
  on its forehead?

i dont recall geishas having the chinese  traditional huadian makeup on their forehead

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
here are examples of huadian makeup:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Geishas dont wear chinese traditional earrings either..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. "beautygeisha"

Clearly this is a set that is based off one of the hanfu costumes worn in the cdrama "the empress of china", where is the geisha?? i dont see it

-Also, its insanely direspectful to call something chinese with the word "Geisha"

(And why doesnt the set have the inner garment like in the picture?, is it trying to resemble a kimono?)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3rd "wintery geisha"

this is probably based off hanfu? why include the name geisha ma'am.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4th "Geisha"

This is just a set that is inspired by japanese royal attire?

why mention the word geisha?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Erm yea, i know this isnt that serious but.. I just wanted to rant. Because the naming of these sets are stupid-

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe its not the designer that named the sets since I saw the male version of this  named as empress or something idk? i dont remember

edit: in every vp server it had the same name so nvm..

It’s was the Asian/Hindu one but idk why she thought it was her place to put it in a dress up game for mostly Europeans as a Dutch person 💀 basically she was kinda weird about how she brought in cultural elements in her designs imo
tbh i get where ppl come from with this esp with how she did very little research on cultural designs but this symbol has been stolen from hindu culture and ppl have every right to reclaim the symbol that stands for peace not for death and torture. I dont think sol has been in the wrong for including it in a design but it shouldve been made very clear and maybe also came with an explanation of what it means. I still wouldnt allow this symbol in germany (it was approved on the server until we got a remade version without the symbol after someone pointed it out last year) since its an awful reminder of what this symbol stood for in regards to families who lost their loved ones. I do wish that there was more people who knew the actual history behind this symbol but its understandable why its viewed as weird esp for europeans no matter the meaning for other cultures.
i dont think that a dutch person drawing a swastika is reclaiming it, especially considering she doesnt seem to be very concerned with researching which attire is from which country and mixing chinese and japanese cultures together
yea i mean in that sense regarding sol i wouldnt say they did either but what i was trying to say is that only bcs sol is dutch, doesnt mean they shouldnt be allowed to represent it for others. Idk what their intentions were when adding the manji but generally speaking i think that designers should be allowed to represent different cultural designs even if they are not from the culture. I agree though that IF you decide to do these types of designs with the intention of it representing a certain culture, then you should absolutely do your research at the very least so yea i understand  why ppl would be iffy about sol adding that symbol regarding her geisha history...

but yeah i agree the whole geisha thing is weird, making outfits from a culture youre not a part of is a delicate thing and you need to do your research but this is giving seeing asian cultures as "aesthetic"

about the set names - designers name sets while uploading them and they arent reuploaded to other servers and instead pushed, so the name will always be the same on each server yes
Mhm, slapping the word geisha on these is so... literally what was the designer even thinking? and clearly solovey didnt even do much research on some of these, esp on the "geishagenericmuch" set, because why is the collar facing the wrong way? and many more other inaccuracies..

Oh i see, thank you for the clarification!!

I never even noticed that it was named like that, and tbh it is disrespectful, especially since you're supposed to look a bit into the attire's culture before trying to recreate that attire, or at the very least know their names or something
Exactly, i dont know what went through the head of the person naming these sets and the first set ive mentioned had something cultural from another country which isnt related to what the set is based off whatsoever..
