| soo i have chronic headaches and chronic migraines which basically means i have either a headache or a migraine permanently and for the past years i've been on a journey to find the right meds and stuff to avoid spamming hi thread or my startalks i thought id document a bit of whats going on in here! starting from - now - and not going to revisit everything ive tried over the years hh tuesday 20th of october i had an intake appointment with The Migraine Clinic, a clinic that specialises in, u guessed it, migraines. they employ doctors and neurologists and have their own pharmacies which deliver ur meds at home!! i wasn't sure what to expect, as i have tried many different things over the years and my GP didn't really seem to have anything new to offer. BUT!! the appointment was super insightful and informative, and there's sooo many things left to try!! first off i'm switching my triptan medication. the one i was using always took forever (like 2 hours) to work and it had some very annoying side effects, my jaw would completely tense up and make eating/drinking super painful, also i would feel like i had the flu. so i'm trying out another one to see if that one works better. then, because i have chronic migraines, i qualify for brand-new meds that have just been released for public use!! which is super exciting because according to my doctor, it works for 80 (!!!!!) percent of migraine havers!! BUT. before i'm allowed to try them out (and have them be covered by my insurance because they're really fucking expensive) i need to try a few other things. one of them would be an antidepressant or meds to help with epilepsy, but they can make you feel more depressed as a side effect. because i have ADHD & a history with depressive symptoms my doctor doesn't really want to prescribe those to me, which means i can skip them and check them off, aka one step closer to the miracle meds haha. however i'm thinking of trying them out anyways because i do have the time to feel a little sad right now lol then another thing i have to do before i can get the miracle meds is BOTOX??? i kind of knew that some people did this for migraines but never thought it was actually proven to be helpful lol. apparently it helps for 1/3 people who try it! i do have a crippling fear of needles so thats going to suck ass, unfortunately im not allowed to skip this one and also i have to do it TWICE and its like 30 needles both times. the doctor said she could give me an oxazepam (kind of like a xanax i think?) so i'm less scared lol so i think i will do that. then if the botox doesn't work well enough, i can get the wonder meds. SO ! a lot to try and definitely not the end of the road yet. : D |
