Garden of Silence |
It was a beautiful spring day outside. I was wearing my favorite blue dress with my hair put back in a black bow. I was walking down to the park when something caught the corner of my eye. I stopped and looked to the side. Inside the bushes that lay beside the fence of someone’s house there seemed to be a door shape made out of colorful flowers. Nobody was around so I decided to walk over there. Why not, right? There didn’t seem to be a door knob, so I just pushed the door, and it opened. I took a breath and walked in. Flowers were everywhere. They were so tall that they completely surrounded me. There was a path leading straight ahead, so I followed it until I came to this wishing well. I looked down the well, it was pitch black. I didn’t know what I should do. I stood there for a minute just thinking. Oh well. Why not just throw a coin in, make a wish and see what happens? I can waste a penny on this..I thought to myself. I pulled a coin out of my purse, just a penny in case the well did not work so I wouldn’t have wasted that much. I held the coin tightly in my hand, closed my eyes, and made a wish. What was my wish, you may ask? I wished to have peace among myself. Be careful what you wish for. I opened my eyes and threw the coin into the well. The well started glowing a nice gold color. It wouldn’t stop. I stared at the well watching the shimmer and glitter of the glow. I stepped closer and put my hand onto the glow. It pulled me in. I was falling down into darkness. I tried to let out a scream but nothing came out of my mouth. Everything was silent. I could not see anything, but I knew I had stopped falling. I was on a cold, rocky floor. Some rocks were pointing into my back. I sat up, brushed my chest off, and looked around. I could still not see anything. Something vibrated in my purse. It was my phone. There was a text message from a random number. “Welcome. You have what you wished for. Peace. Nobody is around to bug you. Enjoy.” I slid to unlock my phone but as I did that it died. I had nothing at this point that I could use to get help or to find out where I was. I stood up. I was trying to scream for help, but nothing came out. I was silent. I don’t know why I was silent because I was using all my might to scream as loud as I could. Everything was silent. I had so many thoughts going through my head. How do I get out? Why am I silent? What do I do? Then I remembered: this was still a wishing well. I was at the very bottom of the well, but it was still the well. A wish would still work. I took another coin out of my purse, closed my eyes, and wished that I would be back at home in my room. I dropped the coin and gold surrounded me. I started floating off the ground and up out of the well. I was ready to touch the floor once I was out of the well but I was flashed back to my room as I had wished. I looked around my room. I wasn’t sure if this was actually real. I squeezed the covers on my bed to make sure they were the same old fluffy covers. My cat was still my actual cat laying on my bed. I looked out the window to see people in cars covered in gold, as usual. Everything was back to normal. I was happy to be on my own and still had the peace I wished for, but definitely not in the midst of unknown darkness down deep in a well, that’s for sure. Then I realized, oh my god, I’m not completely silent anymore! I opened my mouth and started talking to my cat - yes, completely normal to do that - and I was so relieved. I heard birds chirping outside of my window. No more silence. But I still had my peace. Now I had everything I wished for and more. But be careful what you wish for. Wishes have minds of their own, and will take your wishes down a long path to nowhere. |
